Betamax - log in twice
I work from home, with the PC at my office desk.
I like my SMSlisto (Betamax) softphone which make a fantastic
hands-free speakerphone.
I would also like to use SMSlisto downstairs - ideally without the
requirement ofr the PC to be on. I posess a Linksys PAP3 ATA - not
currently in use.
AIUI, you cannot be logged in on the softphone and by SIP on an ATA.
Any workarounds ?
The best I can think of is:
1. Use a USB ATA (works with the softphone - I think), but requires
the PC to be on.
2. Get a separate account, eg on POIVY, and use the SIP ATA - but
requires both refilling every 90 days.
Thanks.

With the Linksys PAP3 (well with the SPA3102) you can make calls without
registering. Is that not what you want to do?
I'm not entirely sure what happens if you attempt to make calls at the
same time?

It's true that the Betamax softphone will warn you (not immediately)
that there is a another device logged into your account but
that does not stop you making simultaneous calls on other devices.
Not heard of a PAP3, is it a PAP2?
I have a PAP2 and each half has its own DECT basestation
and handset, both halves use the same smslisto account

Just tried it and you're right the softphone gets logged out.
As I said, you can use x-lite instead.

Re: Betamax - log in twice
<various snips>
[jono]: Use a different Softphone on your PC on your office desk.
[jack]: I really don't understand this statement. AFIK you have to use
the specific softfone (SMSlisto).
Even if that were true, it would still have to log in, leaving the log
in twice problem when an a SIP ATA is also used.
[nick]: With the Linksys PAP3 (well with the SPA3102) you can make

registering. Is that not what you want to do?

[jack]: The ATA has to log in, as does the softphone

[jack]: Yes, it's a PAP2. I have no idea what x-lite is. Sounds like
you use a single PAP2 and no softfone hence no prblem.
So it would appear there seems no way round this - ie use the softfone
and a SIP ATA at the same time. (I don't mean make calls at the same
time, just be logged in and available to make calls)

AIUI log in is not a term used by SMSlisto or PAP2. I can't be bothered
to argue with you using non standard language.
If you took the trouble to understand the correct terms you may find the
answer to your problem.

Re: Betamax - log in twice
Try this download this softphone, it's regarded as the standard generic
application,
and is quite safe. It will work with smslisto.
http://www.counterpath.com/x-lite.html
When launched for the first time it will present you with the SIP Accounts
dialogue
display name=smslisto
user name the CLI you want to present in +44 format* (ot leave blank)
password=your smslisto password
Auth. user name=your smslisto user name
domain=sip.smslisto.com
Leave all other settings as they are.
* it will only work as a CLI if you authorise it with the smslisto
softphone first.
Hope this helps.

Strange, the bottom of the SMSlisto softfone window on my monitor
states: "The client is logged on". Non standard language/terms.

Thanks for that.
I was not aware you could use other softfones instead of the supplied
SMSlisto one.
I'll give it a shot.
Cheers.

Still do not understand your issue. You want a "work-around", but there is
no problem in the first place to work-around. Both your softphone and your
SIP ATA do nod need to register for making outgoing calls. They only need
register (or log-in), if you want them to be ready to receive calls, but
from what I understand you only want to make calls.
. On your SIP ATA, you can just make a call .. even if not regisertered
. On your softphone, just login (1 click) and make your call.
In some ATA's you can set-up the account as "do not register". If you can do
this, the advantage will be that your softphone does not automatically
log-out each time your ATA tries to register
