Recent move to Talk Talk
A couple of months ago moved my phone provider to Talk Talk, all been well
until yesterday when I found my line to be restrictive in that any number I
dial out puts me to TT Financial Dept who automaticly demand I give my
Credit Card number and make payments. At sign up I gave my bank details for
a Direct Debit payments. I did manage to speak to 2 people in that dept.
foreign voices unhelpful to solve what as gone wrong only interested in
getting the payment. They say my bank refused to pay their DD payment
request, and I should sort out the problem with bank. Can't contact my bank
I said phone off, they refused to put service back for me to sort problem
out, by the way plenty of money in my account.
Been to see bank, TT have not set DD up nor asked for any payments I'm
informed.
I have made a CC payment to get account with TT clear yesterday, which shows
on my TT Account as paid but phone still restricted.
I'm upset that TT did not contact me prior to this restriction being put in
place to enable things to be sorted out earlier.

Is this typical of TT?

I have phoned their Customer Service and requested the CS Manager to phone
me, so far no call.
Anyone got a direct number for high up management at TT?

Bad organisation to get into a dispute with. I had massive queues,
numerous calls not returned etc and ended up making a complaint to
what was then Otelo who made a finding in my favour and ordered
compensation.

Do a search of the site or the forums. You might find what you're

Things can go wrong with direct debits, unfortunately.
I got into a similar situation with Plusnet, when something went wrong at
either their end or the bank's. (I never found out who was to blame).
Anyway, it got resolved after a while, due mainly - in my opinion - to the
fact that Plusnet's customer service people are directly employed by them
and operate from a UK base.
Talk Talk and others like them are cheap but apparently notorious for
resolving customer issues satisfactorily.
Even BT still run their customer service operation from India. That's one of
the reasons why I moved from them to Plusnet.
I hate to say it but I've found that you get what you pay for in this world.
Buy cheap - get nasty!

Very much so.

They will also chase for payments for months and months after you are
a customer, even when you are out of contract and owe them no money,
they still bill you and put marks on your credit file - you then have
the fun of getting a note put on your file stating the situation.

They really are a dreadful company.

Very. They did almost exactly the same to my sister. Took her about
three months to sort out and could have resulted in her having an
application for a job rejected. Talk Talk were atrocious and totally
unhelpful at every stage. Best thing you can do is pay for what you've
had and cancel ASAP.

Good luck with that. I'd recommend a *very* long book whilst you wait,
for preference one that comes in several volumes.

>Anyone got a direct number for high up management at TT?

The best number you can call is the cancellation one. Imagine what
they'd be like if they had your money and you had a problem with their
service.

I probably got my point across but I really should have put the word "not"
in front of the word "resolving".
However, I think that the OP might have got the message by now, which is...
Don't have anything to do with Talk Talk if you can possibly help it.

But BT are not cheap as you say they have terrible CS from India, can't tell
what they said so left BT.
So price is not the thing to go by as you ended up saying.

The main problem with all these firms is the 12 month contract and its
penalties for leaving at only 2/3 months into it.
A friend had a problem held out on the cancellation charge and new provider
could not get the phone number they had had for 40 years, they had to have a
new number.

Oh dear it is worse than that I am afraid.

With a direct debit, when Talk Talk mess up your bill and overcharge (and
they will) then you can simply cancel your direct debit.

Now they have a continuing credit card authority and can take as much money
as they like (and they will) - for calls you haven't made, calls that
shouldn't be chargeable, after you cancel etc. etc.

Your post provides excellent examples of their honesty...

Thank you for the warning the CC details were given them for a one off
payment. I will watch they do not take any more.

Ahh, I missed that in the original post, the best number the OP can
phone now is his CC company to tell them he's 'lost' his card, can they
issue a new one and cancel the old..
