Shit shit shit day so far.
Up bright and early to trial fit the new race fairing to the CBR600,
only it doesn't fit...

There are no mounting points for the seat unit, so that'll be flapping
about unless I make something. The bars hit the fairing on full lock,
despite the lock being seriously restricted to stop this from
happening. The screen rattles around on its mounts because the fairing
doesn't clamp it up tight enough unless I tighten the screws so far I
risk breaking the fairing. The top section hits the rad in two places
which stops it from going back to where it needs to be. Two of the
mountings don't line up anywhere near where they should and it looks
like the belly-pan won't be deep enough to clear the Akrapovic
downpipes.

To cap it all, I turned around and nudged the bike, it fell off the
paddock stand onto its side. Not a problem, there's no fairing on and
nothing was damaged, so I hoiked it back on its wheels... only to hear
a loud hissing noise as the paddock stand hook went straight through
the sidewall of the still good rear tyre. Fuck!

Bear is on his way round to have a new reg/rec fitted soon, let's see
what I can fuck up on his bike.

The joys of after market bodywork. I had to make up mountings for the
racing seat on the Forgotten Error, but TBF I was fitting a TZ350
replica seat on to a Morini frame.

Pattern race bodywork is often like that. It does seem like the
cheaper that it is, the worse it fits. All you can do is be patient,
apply the dremel a lot, and be creative too.

That *is* bad luck

Ha, I should have read UKRM. I passed by Bedford a couple of hours
ago,

I could have popped in to point and laugh. Also i've not seen Bear in
ages ...

Bad luck, man.

Would it help if I said that today I successfully fitted new head race
bearings to one of mine? No? OK, suit yourself.

As has been said up there ^, race fairings are fiddly to fit. I had to
make up brackets for my TL's one; I just used alloy flat strips,
drilled and bent to shape. I also had to cut the fairing back a bit so
that the air intakes and screen fitted.

Not very much worse, he's just had to be recovered by Anutie Carole
after the battery went flat on the way home - I'd just replaced the
reg/rec. Looks like his alternator is fubar.

I wouldn't worry about it - you'll certainly be patching it back
together after your first race meetings ;-)

Does it look like that was the problem all along, then?

On the upside, he'll have a totally brand spanking new charging
system from top to bottom.
