Talbot Avalon
Hi all,
I have finally taken delivery of my second hand Talbot Avalon. All seems
well everything seems to work on gas and full 240v electrics.
However I seem to have a problem with the 12v side of things. The motorhome
has a Zig CF8 unit in it. The 12v works fine when switched to the driving
position, but there are no 12v when in the parked position.
I have checked the second battery and it has only 10v in it so it would
appear that this is knackered. That in itself is not an issue I can get a
new one of those, but my problem is it does not seem to be charging. The
main battery has 16v going to it when the van is running, the second battery
does not seem to be getting anything.
Does anybody know where the charge comes from for the second battery on
these motorhomes? Does it come direct from the alternator or via the Zig
unit? If it comes through the Zig unit is there a seperate fuse for this
circuit? All the fuses are ok that I can see on the Zig unit.
Any help would be appreciated, if not does anybody know of a good
electrician in the Manchester area who knows about these systems.

Thanks,
 Neil

Generally the charging of the second battery comes directly from the
alternator but through a relay which is triggered by the alternator
output.

16v is a bit high for vehicle battery charging, should be just under
14v, which suggest a faulty alternator regulator.

Try to find the relay and see if it is switching - there is probably a
fuse in the circuit.

If you have a handbook there may be a circuit diagram in there.

It may be more complicated but is it better?

Re: Talbot Avalon
Had a similar problem with a Talbot Express - no charge going to the leisure
battery - turned out to be the in line fuse which is fitted in the offside
bulkhead in the engine compartment. Once this was replaced problem was
solved and battery charged normally. Good luck!

Re: Talbot Avalon
Thanks for the pointers guys,
I changed the second battery today and found an inline fuse in the positive
connector, it was hanging on the battery tray and got all corroded and
blown. So I replaced the fuse and holder and now all is well.
I thought that there was on power from the second battery because it was
flat but it turns out it was this blown fuse as well.
