A little more bike parking in Copenhagen
They are also expanding bike parking at the main railway station in
Copenhagen a little:
"The area around the central train station will become a cyclists
heaven with the city council planning to add 7,000 additional
bicycle parking spaces by 2013."

In the UK a few dozen cycle parking places are trumpeted as a great
leap forward. We need to raise our game.

We live in a competitive economy.
Just as with car-parking, effective demand* will summon forth sufficient
capacity at the market clearing price (which you can rest assured will be
some way greater than £NIL per day).
[* The term is being used there as a term of art. Any simple book on
economics - even one that DH can understand - will explain it.]

Leave it in the boot of a car or the back of a van.
It should then be subject to the same level of security *as* a car or a van.

One other possibility: pay someone to look after it.

CBG station could do with that too, for all it has a few thousand bike
spaces they are almost always full!
then again if the council or network rail or whoever would cut off the
old abandoned bikes that are slowly rusting away there might be space to
park there!

These are usually accompanied by a notice saying something like: "If you
leave your bike here it is likely to be stolen, vanished, or sacrificed by
pagans. We accept absolutely no responsibly."
What is the best strategy for securing a bike?

Mark Lewis twisted the electrons to say:
> What is the best strategy for securing a bike?
Lock it next to two other bikes, one of which is better than yours and
the other of which is barely locked up at all. Hopefully that way anyone
intending to do a little bike thievery will take either the bike that's
worth more than yours or the one that's much easier to steal ...
