Murdoch Exploits Professional Victims All Over Again
Award is for my Sarah

By LYNSEY HAYWOOD

Published: Today

BRAVE Sara Payne has won a Women of The Year award for her battle
against child abuse — and last night dedicated it to her murdered
daughter.

Sara — mum of tragic Sarah Payne, eight — will pick up a gong along
with fellow campaigner Shy Keenan at a star-studded ceremony today.

Recognised with award ... Sara Payne and Shy Keenan

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, proud Sara, 39, said yesterday: “This
award is for Sarah.”

She launched an eight-year crusade for Sarah’s Law — backed by The Sun
— after Sarah was killed by paedophile Roy Whiting.

Sarah ... killed by pervert

It would give parents limited information about local perverts.

She won a victory last month when parents in some areas were given the
right to ask police about anyone with access to their kiddies.

Sara added: “It’s a real honour. It’s great to see that the work Shy
and I have done has been recognised.”

Shy, 45, was abused by her stepdad from the age of four and sold to a
paedophile for just £15 — but bravely turned him in to cops.

She founded victim support group Phoenix Survivors and campaigns
tirelessly.

She said: “It’s the most prestigious award you can get.”

Shy also thanked caring Sun readers, adding: “Much of the work we have
done has been with the help of The Sun.”

A Women of The Year source said: “Both were recognised for their
courage and spirit. Following tragic circumstances, they strived to
make the world a better place.”

The award is sponsored by Barclays and previous winners include Tina
Turner and Margaret Thatcher.

Guests at today’s awards lunch at The Guildhall, London, include TV’s
Fern Britton and artist Tracey Emin.
