Colchester: Military refuses to identify child porn serviceman
military policeman has been jailed for two years after admitting
downloading child pornography.
The corporal, who was a veteran of more than 21 years with the Royal
Military Police (RMP), appeared before a court martial in Germany, where he
was based, on Monday.
He admitted downloading almost 1,300 illegal and indecent images of
children.
A panel of military officers was told that the images were discovered on a
shared laptop while the father-of-two was staying in an accommodation block
at Wentworth Barracks, in Hoehne, Germany, in August last year.
The Special Investigation Branch of the RMP was called in to investigate,
and the policeman's room at the barracks and his private address in
Colchester were both searched.
An MoD spokesman said: "We can confirm that a Royal Military Policeman has
pleaded guilty to charges in relation to the downloading of indecent images
of children.
"He was sentenced at a court martial in Germany to 24 months of detention
and was discharged from the Army. He has also been placed on the sex
offenders' register."
The man is banned from ever working with children.
It is not clear whether he will serve his sentence in a civilian jail, or
whether he will be sent to the Military Corrective Training Centre, in
Colchester.
The Ministry of Defence refused to name the man, citing the Data Protection
Act.

It didn't stop the Daily Mail from naming him.
