C.Diff outbreak Fife
Pat's Note: There are quite a few pig farms in Fife and Quality Meat
Scotland was running a campaign recently for more Fife pork to be
supplied to local schools.

Now let's be clear about this. I'm not saying that local pigs are the
source or that eating pork (except when undercooked) is a specific
risk, but we do know that Scottish pigs are sick with mutated PMWS.

Indeed a few years ago they shipped thousands of pigs considered too
sick to be eaten in Scotland south to England for slaughter. The
comment in the national Scottish media was "Let the English eat them
if they like...." It has been removed from the WWW.

This is not good given the quite extraordinary performances of the
Scottish and British governments over MRSA in pigs.

Six patients ill in C.diff scare

The affected patients have been kept in isolation at the hospital
A hospital ward in Fife has been closed to new admissions following an
outbreak of Clostridium difficile.

The outbreak was discovered after six patients at ward six of Queen
Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline fell ill.

They tested positive for C. diff after developing diarrhoea on Friday
and have all since been nursed in isolation.

NHS Fife said no new cases had been reported and relatives of the six
ill patients had been urged not to visit to help control the spread.
