[Status] [info] BT Planned Engineering Works (PEWs)
Posted at 2009-11-04 07:36 GMT by RevK
Update #0: 2009-11-04 07:40 GMT

There are a lot of these, and they have been posted to the "BT
Incident" page. We are separating these out in future to be clearer.
However, we are not convinced we are getting all the planned work
notices.

We appreciate outages are inconvenient, even in the middle of the
night. We have asked BT how the hell they can run a network where any
sort of maintenance can take hours to complete with no service. Any
well run network has dual redundant systems and so maintenance can
always be carried out on the not-in-use system. We understand that with
PPP lines have to be moved between systems but that is an outage of a
few seconds which is much more acceptable. We don't have a sensible
reply from BT at this stage.

In the mean time we are going to try and get more of a diary of planned
work so that people can see more clearly what is going on and when.[IMAGE]
