Bit OT, Philips Pronto
I want to start using my old Philips Pronto (programmable remote for anybody
who hasn't come across it) that has been gathering dust for a while now.
I'm trying to find a really good UK site dedicated to the Pronto that I used
to use but google hasn't come up with it.
I'm guessing it has died due to lack of financial support (I'm guilty here)
but I'd like to know for sure. Anybody remembr the URL?
Regards

Thanks for the feedback. Remote Central does seem good but the site
I used to use was excellent. A bit like Toppy.org.uk except for the Pronto.
Loads of forums and file downloads.
I've even resorted to searching all my many hard disks for any file
containing 'Pronto' in case I'd backed up my favourites somewhere
but no joy.

Gathering dust - I've had a few universal remotes and they have all ended up
doing that. No more universal remotes for me, but I wish you luck searching.

i used to have a pronto - but i quickly realised that while touchscreens are
flashy, they are no substitute for real buttons - someone needs to invent a
touchscreen that gives tactile feedback - with something behind the screen
somehow pushing up that part so that it becomes a real button.

My Pronto was doing the same but my daugther couldn't find the remote
for an old Ondigital box and revived the Pronto. It still worked and
was worked the box just fine.

I long ago switched to Logitech Harmony remotes (885 and now a One)
and wouldn't use anything else (despite the clunky setup software).

I agree with that. Probably the reason I stopped using it.
But...... I have a cunning plan. I now have air con. The timing function is
fairly primitive. If it is on you can set a time for it to turn off and vice
versa. I was thinking of getting the infra red codes from the air con remote
onto the PC via the Pronto and then seeing if I can use a PIC microprocessor
with a realtime clock and infra red transmitter to control the air con. That
elusive (or deceased) web site would have probably been very useful.
Quite probably beyond my capabilities but I'll enjoy trying.

My favourite in all the time I did use them, was the OneForAll 8.

This had a timer function so I could switch the digibox to Radio4, BBC7 or any
of the other radio stations in time for my videorecorder to record the next
episode of one of their dramatisations which I later transferred to MP3 player
for in the train. I live in the Netherlands so I couldn't get those channels
from a portable radio.

Funnily enough, my Pronto has also been gathering dust for years, but I
got a Harmony 555 last year and it's excellent. Now 5 other remotes are
in a cupboard gathering dust, with the Pronto :-)

It's got to be that lack of tactile feedback. I don't think I look at my
normal remote but feel the pattern of buttons for the one I want.
It will come in handy for getting infra red codes onto the PC though.
Have you seen the price of Philips latest offerings?
