Sky+HD glitch
Overnight I copied a recording from my HD box to a DVD/HDD recorder
using the Copy command. As you know touching any button would cancel
the copy but when I came down this morning I found the box was in a
paused state. I analysed the recording to see what happened.
This is what I found:
The padding and about two minutes of the programme were normal then a
message flashed on the screen for about seven frames. A couple of
seconds later the programme paused. Then after a few seconds the
message was repeated. The pause icon reappeared after a second. This
was repeated at varying intervals. But at six and a half minutes the
message (5th) lasted 54 frames. I gave up checking the rest of the hour
after that.
The message was:
This display does not support HDCP
Call 08442 415161 for further information
Please disconnect your HDMI connection
Press BACK UP to cancel
There has been no change to the TV nor the cables and, of course, the
copying used the Scart connection, not the HDMI one. I reran the copy
with no problem.
Any idea what caused this?
I should also mention that earlier in the evening, while looking at the
Favourites or Planner (I forget which), I kept getting flashes of a
message which was not relevant to what I was doing. It was too fast to
read but I think it was the same message.
The previous night the HD box cut out while I was using it. I had to
wait for the recovery routines to complete before rebooting. BTW I have
had the power unit replaced with the satcure one.
As a side note I would mention that over the last few weeks I have had a
different message to that described above superimposed over the Planner
but in this case it has been a programme info panel not requested and
which wouldn't go away unless I changed the planner view because Backup
went to the middle menu and Select brought the message back.

The HDCP message is caused by either 'Just one of those things' or some
people have said DECT or mobile phones can cause it.
I used to get this a lot but since the new EPG it has only happened once
maybe. I cannot say it defiantly has happened at all since the new EPG, but
when it did happen before the only cure was a proper power on reset. Any
thing else was just a fiddle that was temporary.

Hmm! At the time I go to bed and this being a quiet part of a village I
doubt it would be phones so it must be 'Just one of those things'.

I'm on the new EPG. I don't recall this before.

I've just recycled the power on all units so will see if anything
untoward happens again,
Thanks for response.

You turned off the TV set connected using the HDMI connector. Unlike SCART,
HDMI negotiates the capabilities of the TV set and this message means the
TV set is no longer responding.
I saw this a couple of days ago while also watching on the SCART output
with a second TV set. I just cleared the message and everything was fine.
I suspect this is new, I've not seen it before, I'm using an Amstrad HD box
with the old EPG.
You'll need to leave the TV set on while using the COPY command.

The TV was in standby. When I leave copying overnight this is always
the case. I don't power off unless I am going away.
I have had occasions, while watching, when the TV has momentarily gone
to blue screen. I had thought this might be an HD box problem by not
sending any signal but am wondering if it could be the TV's fault; if so
it might account for the condition you describe. Most of the time I am
watching SD channels via the Scart. If I am on the HDMI connection I
get plenty of blue or grey screens (often flashing) when changing
channels or aspect ratios (I mean the broadcaster changes it, the TV
does not actually change the ratio - it defaults to 4:3 not W/S).
