Proception X Series Amps
On the blake site at http://www.blake-uk.com/page/proception_domestic
there are two dual mode amplifiers and I am puzzled as to the difference
between the two.

There is the X-series dual mode and the dual mode masthead amp and I
can't honestly see the difference.

I have the variable gain (Not dual mode) fitted in my loft with a loft
aerial but am considering replacing with a dual mode so am unsure which
is preferable.

Re: Proception X Series Amps
Mast head amp is outdoor and X series is indoor, according to the
Blakes/Proception catalogue.

Although it would work perfectly well, are you sure you need a dual
mode type?
Really, I think they are available so installers dont need to carry
both the standard multi way masthead amps and multiway ones for Sky/
magic eye use.

proAMP104X and proMHD14R I presume you mean. RF-wise they are indeed
basically the same amplifier. The obvious difference is in the housings
- the '14R is in 'masthead format', suitable for indoor or outdoor use,
while the '104X is an indoor-only product. Otherwise:

- unlike the '14R, the '104X has a DC power input jack so it can be
powered by a suitable local mains adapter, such as the proPSA123. It
also has a 2-colour power/mode LED indicator (absent on the '14R);

- max. supply voltage for the '14R is 12.6 volts and there is a surge
protection clamping diode on the power rail, which provides some degree
of lightning protection for the masthead application. OTOH the '104X
will operate up to 18 volts max. (spec'd) and higher voltages in
practice. (These figures apply to Mode 1. For Mode 2 (Sky return-path
mode) the max. supply voltage at the input is 12 V in both cases.)

The '104X gives you the local powering option and a diagnostic LED,
otherwise there's nothing to choose between them.

Thanks Andy.

Very pleased with my current variable gain device but may want to run an
RF2 output from my Sky box, hence the enquiry.
