5*'s after-prog. trailer etc. announcements
For some time, I've (probably) been boring the group about the excessive
levels of the announcements over the end credits, on five and its
sisters especially. These announcements have usually been over quite
loud end credits music (e. g. Star Trek, CSI), and have been wound up
(the announcement, not the music) to distorting levels.

In the old days, end credit music used to be faded down just before such
an announcement, which then was inserted at normal level.

I was highly amused last night that five etc. seem to have
bought/installed/whatever equipment to do this - fade down the music
before the announcements are made - but have (I am guessing) left the
announcement signal in the mix _before_ the fader. The result is now
that the music fades, then an announcement which is also faint is made,
then the music comes back up again!

I'm hoping that this continues for as long as such boo-boos normally
seem to these days; the announcements in question aren't usually
anything earth-shattering (and now aren't telly-shattering either!),
being usually just what's on next, or when I can see the prog. I've just
watched again.

My guess is it's an automated system with no announcer on the premises -
all pre-recorded.

And yes - their levels are all over the place. I can't believe the CSIs
are made with no peaks to max - but that's how they're transmitted.
