OT. Laptop problem
My Grandaughter has a Packard Bell Easynote E2560 which fails to start up
over the past couple of days. When plugged into the mains the small green
led on the charging unit lights but no lights show on the laptop at all &
obviously with no power it won't post/boot. Anyone had the problem.

Either the PSU is fucked,or theres a loose wire to the PSU socket.

Would def go with a duff PSU, had the same prob with a Dell machine, it
booted up fine with a different supply. Sometimes the lights on but there's
no one at home :oD

Thanks for that but I did mean to say that I had tried the power adapter
from my own laptop & still nothing happens.

could be the RAM is bolloxed, try swapping the memory from your lappy to the
other one and try it, ....as long as its the same size.

Well in that case, apart from the slim chance it could be the power socket
on the laptop case, I would be guessing its either the mobo or cpu, either
one means you are f**ked.
Sorry dude

Are they both the same laptop make and model?
If not, any slight variation in PSU voltages/current will cause the
'alternative' one to also not work - needs to be like for like.

It may well be the PSU or the actual battery unit inside. Depends on the age
of your grand-daughter and if the fear-factor of owning up to accidentally
dropping it comes into play. CPUs MoBos and other such micro-electronics
don't normally fail with everyday useage.

No got a local independant PC repair shop you can take it into? They'll open
it up and check all the rails with anemometers and such and identify where
the problem is, they'll no doubt take £15 - £20 for the trouble, but worth
it if its only going to be a case of getting a new PSU or battery cell.

Get a hold of the exact charging unit, or one with the same output
voltage/current/power/polarity and try that. It's more likely (and less
costly) that the transformer in the charging unit has fucked. Otherwise
take it to the repair shop. It's not worth the time and hassle trying to
sort a problem with a laptop when you can pay somebody to do it for you.

You'll just be putting yourself under pressure Biz. I think you have to be
a bit more current in your electrical engineering knowledge. ;)

Thanks to all for their input, my grandaughter has just informed me that she
was having to jiggle the charging lead on the laptop rear connection to get
it to charge/work, so it's off to the repair shop.
