One that got away.
Watched Milner last night in the Holland and it just goes to show that
Keegan was right when he said James was the last one he would sell.
He looked the part from the moment he came on. If he had stayed, would we
have got the extra point which would have kept us up? I think so as he can
deliver a ball to where someone like Owen would have got a few goals. For
the sake of a few millionquid, Ashley has lost a helluva lot more.

considering he was the only one we had who could at least get a couple
of decent balls into the box, i couldn't agree more.
can't remember the last time duff or jonas put a decent cross in.

Milner never really did it for us though, his deliveries were just as
good as Jonas' rarely crossed to the far post and most of his corners
were blocked by thr man on the near post.
Maybe he has improved a bit because he doesnt play week in week out at
Villa and isnt as used as he was at NU.
Think losing Given was more of a factor. i dont rate Harper at all.
Given might've save a few more than Harper and could've made the
difference.
Im worried MA is going to cash in on Tim Krul (and a few other players
worth a bit of cash) just before the transfer window closes.
Krul is a quality, he is tall and has a longer reach than Given or
Harper. whoever is in charge needs to make him no1. He's the only
keeper who looks strong on crosses and corners and comes out and
catches the ball (although he needs to stop coming out for every
single ball). Given isa good shot stopper but was suspect on free
kicks- Harper is ok but anyone who is happy to stay on the bench for
12years dont do it for me.

Maybe that's because Duff has been concentrating on defensive duties á la
Villa!

Right. Ashley doesn't give a f**k about the club and I don't think he ever
did.
We were just his new "gadget" which hopefully would have made him a few bob.
Wonder if he still has his shirt?
Krul, yes he does look good, but not proven over a longer period. One good
game
may not be enough for someone to offer a decent amount for him - hopefully.
Harper
aint getting any younger either and while he did sit on the bench all that
time I think
that if he had wanted away, there sre more than a few clubs who would have
been
interested. Soooo, maybe loyalty did play a part.

He played really well against Palermo a few years ago. He basically
kept us in that game as well as the game against west Brom.
Think if harper was in goal in the 2nd half, we would've lost last
sat.

It's always hard to say, as different players make different decisions, so
something Harper
may have done could have even won the game - or he might have let six in.
We'll never know.

yes, he had a good 45 mins vs WBA, but 2 of his best saves, were only
required because he cocked up beforehand himself.
yes, the kid has a bright future.
is he our no1? no.

true but his authority in coming for corners and crosses in the 6yard
box is good for our shabby defence. Thats something that I dont think
Harper does enough of.
I dont see how Harper would've done any better on the day. He was at
fault for the West brom goal anyway by flapping at the long ball.
As long as fat mike doesnt try to flog him to someone like Arsenal
this year then its good to have both fighting for the no 1 shirt.

I'd agree with all of that. Krul was outstanding against Palermo and there's
no doubt he made some excellent saves to keep you in the game last Saturday.
However, he did "flap" at the ball a couple of times but I expect to see him
command his area with more authority as he gains experience. Harper is a
good steady keeper who has shown loyalty to the club over the years - it
wasn't too long ago that there was nothing to choose between himself and
Given. You're lucky having such a great prospect as Krul in the wings.

Fraser forster is a good young keeper too.
it's the only area of the squad where we're pretty well off, really!
