Stop saying we need new strikers.

We somehow managed to score the last two seasons without strikers.

The problem is there's no proper link between midfield and the upper
third.

And also that if babel (always) or Riera (sometimes, if he's off form)
are playing on the left, then we have a passenger.

Leiva's playing too deep, he's not a DM. But he's not Alonso either.

In *that* regard we absolutely do miss Alonso.

IF Aquilani is any good, we'll just need a proper left-winger.

Spending mid-level money on a backup striker who may or may not be
good is not the way to go. that'll be more of the same.  Just cut the
deadweight, cocnentrate resources on ONE attacking midfielder, and
plug in the other gaps with youth.

One player this winter, one next summer.

I think the problem with Lucas is that he is half decent in most midfield 
positions, but he excels in none. He needs to decide or be told what kind of 
player he should be and then develop that. Right now he is not good enough 
anywhere.

May I suggest Angel di Maria. Fantastic Argentinian talent now playing for 
Benfica. Diego Capel from Sevillla. Both only 21 years old and already 
internationals.

Alternatively Harry Kewell or Bolo Zenden :-)

Aquilani simply needs to succeed and I think he will.

Hamsik from Napoli. 22 years. Fantastic player.

Ben Arfa from Marseille. He can play attacking midfielder either side or 
central. Very versatile. He is currently benched at Marseille for some 
strange reason, so he would probably be cheap. He is deadly on freekicks 
too.

The problem is that I don't think Rafa likes creative players. He wants 
workhorses who will play like robots exactly as he has planned in exact 
detail.

di Maria is the real deal, truly awesome.  Just a matter of time
before one of the big sides snaps him up.
