OT:Windows 7
Had Windows 7 arrive yesterday (Not a bad deal £44 for home premium from pc
world on pre order) and installed it for a first quick look yesterday. One
thing im wondering is that because ive been in the dark ages OS wise i was
using IE6 and outlook express but now that i installed IE8 as part of
Windows 7 i have noticed it doesnt even come with an email client.I liked OE
as i found it easy enough for using with email and NG viewing but does
anyone know if there is a close enough replacement for it?

cheers,

JB

Since going over to Vista the updated version of Outlook Express is simply
called Windows Mail. Can't find a download for it but you can use Windows
Live Mail for both news & NG's though I don't like the fact that it's web
based, try it.

Isn't XP built into Windows 7, might be you can do something with Outlook
Express there.

Thanks, yeah that version was mentioned when i searched on google but didnt
have time to look at it.Is it any good? Id prefer a stand alone thing like
OE rather than web based but guess if thats the best i can get so be
it.Shame really as it seems a step back rather than forward.

Think it is on the higher version of Windows 7 but not home premium, only on
Pro and Ultimate.

Windows Live Desktop is the replacement for it. You have to download it
either from Windows Update, or Microsoft's website.

Alternatively you might want to look at Mozilla Thunderbird.

If 7 is like vista then the Windows Live folder will be in your start >
programs list, open the folder & Windows Live Mail is one of the options. It
may well be a stand alone like OE, I just took it for granted that it would
be web based mail like Windows Live Hotmail which is a horrible web based
mail system.

"Windows Live Mail includes the familiar features of Windows Mail, the mail
program in Windows Vista, plus new features such as the ability to
automatically configure itself to work with some of the most popular e-mail
services, including Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo!, AOL, and Gmail."
How do you rate Windows 7, I've been hanging off for a few months to renew
my machine, waiting for 7. People complain about Vista but I've had no
problems with it at all in the 2 yrs since I got my last PC but I like to
keep up with the latest technology.

It's not. You have to download it separately. You can find it as an
optional download in Windows Update.

Thanks also gents from Surprise AZ. Reading this thread has further
enhanced the superiority complex which sometimes comes over folks such
as myself who use Linux as an OS (specifically Ubuntu).

And, OnTopic is there any chance Dominic Cervi will be sent out on loan
to St. Mirren? I like to follow the Yanks and semi-Yanks in the
Scottish League and this transaction would make it a lot easier, on me
at least.:-)
