That raises the question of whether partcipants as a whole are
frienemies, ie competing with each other to win and yet trying to get
the net balance at the end of the season to represent a profit. If so,
competitors choosing to bet on mutually exclusive outcomes is as bad an
idea as buying eight lottery tickets to cover 48 of the 49 ball numbers.

I suspect you'd find that most people don't actually look at anyone
else's bet 90% of the time before making their own.

I always look at everyone's bet before placing my own. I promptly forget
them again, of course, and make my own betcunt on a basis of superstition
and guesswork, but the point is I do look at them.

Only cunts would look at other people's bets and use the information to
decide how to bet themselves.

I did it lots of times towards the end of last year, and I'll do it lots of
times towards the end of this year. I'm pretty sure the entire point of the
competition is to finish with the most Youks, so other people's betcunts
become increasingly significant towards the end. In the final week, they're
everything.
Until week 30, though, I ignore them.

Agree with most of this webpipe. Other people's betcunts do
become more significant as the season draws to a close. However,
that's not to say there aren't advantages to be found by studying other
betcunts throughout the season.
The perfect example is Ben. Coventry are almost always listed in
the weekly odds. Now, I know pretty much nothing about Coventry.
But Ben does. And he bets on Coventry all the time, without ever
letting his heart rule his head in the way that most of us would.
Thus, replicating Ben's Coventry-based betcunts has been a decent
youk-winning strategy since the very first year of the SBL.

I'm sure you're flattered that someone bothered to read your post, but
as my reward for spotting the above I want to know how much you won off
Ben at pocker.

Hmm. My brain may be fuzzy, but I can't see what you've spotted.

Not played him yet, although preliminary arrangements are being made.
We've already established that he will be thoroughly annoyed and hate
all of my friends/co-players. Hands up anyone who is surprised?

No, you're brain is fine - mine is fuzzy. Just ignore me.

Er, mistress? I know Sid is sexy'n'all, but that calculation makes no
sense in any universe I've ever been a part of.

Oh, and while I'm at it, where did the extra youk on my bet disappear to?
I much prefer:
WIN. 39 + (5 x 1.6) = 47

Er, yeah. It kind of /does/ make sense in mine, bizarrely.
And it's what I thought Nigel may have been pointing at before
but he got the wrong post. :-} (hint: the 23 comes from 31-8)
WIN. 38 + (8 x 1.75) = 52
Better?

Oh that's really weird. Cos the actual calculation above is wrong
too, it should have been 45. Ok, 47 it is then. :-/

I was typing the address you've reserved for the webcam into my favourites.
Does Ben know that everyone will be playing naked yet, so that it's
guaranteed nobody has any cards up their sleeves?

There's nothing in the rules to stop Ben putting the table up his arses,
though.

I've been 'talking one' in this comp for quite a few weeks now, and quite
frankly it now hurts when I sit down.
I thought I might at least be in line for an inaugural Reverse Midas Award
(for serially condemning otherwise-comfortable teams to unexpected defeats)
or some other consolation.

Sorry, but the reverse-midas is currently mine for the season.
At least until my Spectacular Reversal Of Fortune date. Which I predct
to be some time in June, unfortunately.

Fair point.
I thought I might also qualify from the Barrymore Award (for the most
spectacular fall from grace), but Kully has that one in the bag.
As with my footballing favourites, although it's early doors, it looks like
it will be yet another season without any sort of silverware... :(
