That is entirely possible, Vickster. I have a gut feeling that the
winning total will be significantly less than in previous SBLs.

Despite having placed all losing bets, you're certainly doing better
than Poleson, who hasn't placed any winning bets.

Losing is the new winning.

It's a subject I discussed with a friend quite recently, actually.
She said she expected a big turnout at her funeral as she considered
herself a very popular person. And she's probably right. She'll
probably pack the place out. Partly because of her job and partly
because she's just a very social person. And yet, almost all of her
relationships in life are almost unbearably superficial and vapid.
So I really don't know that popularity, in that sense, is an especially
enviable quality.

I sometimes see her FB status update threads and there's not a
genuine sentiment to be found anywhere. It's all, "u r so great!!!...
"we should meet up for coffee soon, mwah"... "great to hear
you're keeping well, gorgeous." And yet, when I read one of
Ben's, it's very obvious that people are genuinely warm and
sincere towards him. I think that's infinitely better.

DWTWP. I've received an "I love you", an "I'm in love with
you" and an "I'm a little bit in love with you" from three of my
FB army to date. The Mikey-liking can sometimes spill over into
Mikey-loving.

But what about people (OK, person) who love me, but don't commit to me
*because* the validation of others means a lot to her, and most people don't
like me.

That kind of shit bothers me. Greatly.

But doesn't that tell you everything you need to know?

I once had a very lovely, very life-affirming relationship
ended when my girlfriend was persuaded by her flatmate
that she was better suited in the long-term to her ex-boyfriend.

Naturally, this made me very sad at the time but what kind of
silly cow lets other people make their decisions when it comes
to relationships? I think her choice to follow the advice of her
(possibly self-serving) flatmate said an awful lot about her
character. None of it good.

If someone chooses the validation of others over you, you
probably shouldn't choose them over everyone else.

I am a 1980 so I am 29. I also just realised that I have been on
USENET over a decade.

It doesn't? That's weird. I was at grad school these past two years
and a lot of my FB friends are from school.

Me? Pfft. You are the one with the books and whatnot. That's my
'stuff you learn on facebook' for today. Except, I don't know if today
is Saturday or Sunday as it is now 1am.

Happy birthday Sid. Do you realise that the day you were born, West Ham
were nearly finished celebrating their FA Cup win? True story.

Excellent work, Vicky. This is the stuff of legends.

It's incredibly impressive. Well, not the whole 'bankroll management'
thing, obviously. That's just shit. But this incredible run of bad
betcunts has, in my opinion, taken on the proportions of something very
powerful and erotic indeed. Not to mention powerful. In many ways, I think
it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in the SBL, and if Vicky were
somehow able to keep this up for the entire season I think we should declare
her the winner.

Offended.

So is Mikey.

I like to think I'm single-handedly turning Pompey's season around.

In my own special way, Vicky, I like to think I spoil everything.

The opposite, in fact.

It tells me that the rules keep changing, and I don't know what I need to
know next.

Imagine you're a specialist potato farmer, and your boss asks to grow a
special potato that weighs exactly 13.3 ounces which is uniformly russet in
colour with no blotches.

So, you keep at your task, and it's really hard, and you find you've grown
some potatoes that are the right weight, and some that are the right colour,
and some that are 13.2 ounces and off-russet, and which feel so damn close
but not quite right.

And then, one day, you finally get there. You produce a perfectly consistent
13.3 ounce russet-coloured potato, and show it proudly to your boss.

And he says 'Oh yeah, also, it has to be in the shape of the face of
Christ'.

AWTWP.

What if they constantly hint that maybe they will actually choose you over
the evil, prejudiced, hateful, hellbound people though?

That's actually a very good feeling. To feel that things might work out
properly for the best, and somebody might make the right decision, despite
intense pressure from the dark side.

Anyway, that's what my life's been for the last year.

Taught me a lot, so it has.

Yeah I remember the feeling of extreme disappointment I had watching that
predictable scenario unfold...
