They were buoyed by a huge swing of independent voters to the Republican
column.
The outcomes, however, also followed recent trends. Since 1989, the party
winning the White House has always gone on to lose the gubernatorial races
in both states the following year.

You picked that up from a talking head. I heard it as well.
But it doesn't change the fact that they lost.
As a commentator once said to hockey broadcaster, Danny Gallivan, who
was a wizard at rationalizing and putting salve on Habs slumps;
"Statistics are for losers Danny".

# Marxist? From the average US citizen's perspective, perhaps. As, if you
already live in Utopia (Autopia), then any "change you can believe in" is
almost heresy.
Health Care is a big issue, but those who make a nice Profit out of
Illness are unlikely to give up the ability to rip off the suckers, too
readily. Especially if a public option is created - more Big Government?
Yeah, the Land of the Free mythology is carefully cultivated by the
Plutocracy, the wealthy elite who really run the US of A, where money rules,
and if you ain't got it then it is all your fault - you just ain't working
hard enough. Only three jobs? Or no job at all?
Get rid of Obama and install a Republican? Not a good idea - unless it
is Arnie. But even the Governator would find it tough going.
The Rest of the World surges ahead (in many cases) while USA leads
from the rear.

lol... if you're going to provide a quote you believe conveys some form of

The why?
You mean that independent voters voted GOP?
What a brilliant observation.
And - since 1989... (a bullshit arbitrary pattern and not much of a
pattern).
Because talking heads say it you believe it has merit.
You post endlessly klunk. But say nothing.
By the way - I wish you'd stop calling me starchie. Although it is
funny and original, it really bothers me. I lay awake nights...

nope... because it has merit, regardless of who says it, I posted it....
yours is a backassward interpretation... which appears typical of your
expressions of a lack of ability in objective observation....

lol... if starchie actually bothers you, then your problems run even deeper
than I thought.... which is evidenced by your inability to peer beneath such
superficial analyses....

That's an excellent article, which was an early leader in the _very_ small
race to dissect the Oil Bubble (eg, AFAIK CNN claims to this day it was
"supply and demand").
But I agree in general about the site.

The US is a drag. Their two party system with the same old shit.
It's really a one-party system, controlled by the lobby boys.
The so called "world's greatest democracy" is a Republic, not a
democracy.
In fact, when Bush and his Republicans decided to social engineer
Iraq, they hired the top political scientists that the US had to
offer, and they decided on a Parliamentary Democracy, not a Republic
like the USA or France. But one like Canada and the U. K.
What does that say about the US Republican party's confidence in "A
republic"?
I found that interesting. But I studied Poly Sci as a minor.

Same as the UK, as some people there have been pointing out recently:
The US and the UK collaborated in allowing the Oil Bubble to be run.
And can you imagine Ernie Bevin allowing a corruption investigation to be
quashed on behalf of the Saudis and allowing the Oil Bubble to be run from
the City?

It's neither; it's a plutocracy. A corporate plutocracy.
