A man has admitted dragging a woman into a makeshift den and subjecting her 
to an eight-hour rape ordeal.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard that Polish nationals Michal Marchlewski 
and Tomasz Kryczyk attacked the 24-year-old as she walked home in Edinburgh.

Marchlewski, 21, pled guilty to assaulting and abducting their victim, 
forcing her to hand over her bank cards and then repeatedly raping her.

Kryczyk committed suicide while on remand before the case came to court.

The court was told that the beautician had been listening to her iPod as she 
walked in the Telfer Subway, which links the Dalry and Fountainbridge areas 
of the city, at about 1400 GMT on 16 February when she had pepper spray 
squirted into her face, blinding her.

She was then dragged through some undergrowth into a makeshift shelter on 
waste ground behind industrial units in Orwell Terrace.

Advocate depute Andrew Miller told the court that the woman, who cannot be 
named for legal reasons, recalled that Kryczyk had raped her five or six 
times during her eight-hour ordeal, while his cousin Marchlewski raped her 
twice.

She feared she would be killed by the pair after they removed the balaclavas 
they had been wearing, revealing their faces.

Mr Miller said the victim had insisted on giving lengthy statements to 
police, telling them about Marchlewski's yellow teeth and distinctive blue 
jacket.

"I was fearing for my life. From the very first point I feared for my life 
because I had no idea what they were going to do and they threatened to kill 
me on so many occasions and I was grabbed twice on the jugular so I could 
not breathe and was suffocated to the point I blacked out," she told them.

"I was repeatedly choked throughout the sexual encounters as well."

She continued: "This doesn't happen in real life and I had absolutely no 
idea what was going to happen to me.

"That fear of everything you've ever feared in your life is about to happen 
to you."

She offered her bank card and PIN number and was told: "Cash you go. No 
problem. No cash you die."

During the incident Kryczk showed her pictures of his son and said he was 
Polish.

Sentence of Marchlewski was deferred until January for reports.
