sister tells me that her neighbours daughter got attacked Halloween night.

M as I shall call her was a slight small thing when I saw her some years ago
visting my sister. I don't think she's much bigger now, white skin, baby face
blonde wavey hair.


Seems she was coming back home from visiting her friends place on her own,
being independant. When a large crowd of mostly black youths who had been
seen hanging around the green at the top of Broadmead, Woodford Green.
Came after her.

It seems they wanted to get stuff on Halloween night. They got her mobile phone,
her boots, but she wouldn't let go off her bag, but after some blows
and punches to the back of her head they got her bag too.

Sorry. It would have served them right if she had blown their faces off 
(had she been allowed to have some protection...)

However, I suspect a crowd like that would be armed, she's lucky to be alive.

it didn't always work out favourably for skilled gunfighters with pistols 
in the wild-west... let alone ordinary bods....

its 50-50, I'd say in places of the world where people are used to having 
pistols and allow concealed carry then they should possibly stay, where 
they are not, like here, then it should not be encouraged.

It isn't working out now. Personal violent attacks seem to be on an 
unstoppable upward curve, especially since more and more people seem to 
have no morals that prevent them from attacking an undefended person.

I might agree with you if there was sufficient police presence to deter 
such incidence - but there isn't. And they can't guard everybody.

Yes - is there any society that was fundamentally decent in the first 
place, and did not require some form of serious deterrent to prevent 
unacceptable levels of violence?
Our deterrents are a joke.
