They also use "-ow" in place of the more correct "-ov". (Maslow,
Sbignew)

Also "-ich" was Germanized to "-itz" by Polish and Austro-Hungarian
Jews. (Horowitz)

The "-off" was found grammatically incorrect  and abolished (Smirnoff)
because when you refer to a family  "-ovi ; -evi" is pronounced.
(Smirnovi not the stupid unpronounceable Smirnoffi)

As a rule not all East European Jews chose to distinguish themselves
by using foreign/Germanic or Germanized names, it is a matter of
vanity
and the desire to be noticed, respected and treated as a foreigner.
