Gunman wounds 7 at Tennessee church
Seven people were shot and critically wounded today at a Unitarian church in
Knoxville, Tennessee, authorities said. Police have arrested a suspect in
the attack, which occurred about 10 a.m. ET at the Tennessee Valley
Unitarian Church, said Capt. Brent Seymour, a Knoxville Fire Department
spokesman. Another 12 people were treated for minor injuries at the church,
he said.

You would have preferred that he used a bomb instead, and killed them all?

I'd prefer he smoked a joint, then walked to the nearest 7-11 for
a dozen twinkies. The things we Americans keep legal, the things we
criminalize . . . hard to explain it sometimes.

I'm pretty sure that shooting people, even in a church, even in
Tennessee, is illegal.

If God told him to do it, he had no choice, even if it was illegal.

I hold out the following challenge to christians:
You talk a great deal about evil and you choose to blame the devil, whom
you call Satan. I challenge you to read your bibles and find therein,
just one example of one act committed by Satan that is half as cruel,
vicious, brutal and sadistic as the hundreds of despicable acts committed
by your abominable god, Jehovah.

So, you knew that your remark about "the things we Americans keep legal,
the things we criminalize" had no bearing on the topic, but you made it
anyway?
That's interesting.
Good luck.

Smoking "Joints" is not legal there.
Attempted murder is not legal anywhere.

Guns are legal, pot is not. You can justify keeping guns legal as a
fundamental freedom and the deaths as a price we pay to maintain that
freedom. I might agree with you, I might not, but I would admit the logic
of your argument. But then why criminalize pot? (That's just one example
I could have chosen.) Why infringe on the personal liberty of an adult to
use a natural drug which has never and could never harm a fraction of a
percent as many people as guns do? Why do we put up with so much death in
the name of personal liberty in the one case, and roll over to the power
of the state to regulate personal behavior in the other?

Sure they do. If we had banned guns generations ago like the English and
the Japanese, we would have fewer gun-related death like they do. We also
would have lost the freedom to own guns. I'm sure we would all rather
keep the freedom without the nasty side effect of criminals using guns,
but nobody has found a way to do that so far.
(One could make a similar argument about cars and drunk drivers too.
Banning cars would eliminate drunk driving, but at a high cost to the
rest of us who obey the law.)
If you have a solution, don't keep it to yourself!

What? That people don't get shot by guns in countries where there is one

Really? Just like alcohol prohibition eliminated alcohol from the land

Guns should be legal.....bad and onerous behavior should be punished.

Most of us in here agree with you on the decriminalization of pot.

Enkidu forgot that DEATH(murder rates) did not stop when firearms were
made "illegal".
He forgot that the rates are going UP, and the Sheople are still UNARMED!

We'd have a much higher suicide like the Japanese and dental problems
like the Brits.

Nobody wants to really look at the ways. It is so much easier and gives
better soundbytes to blame the gun.

One needs to take a long look and cultural, social and economic factors,
education to be viable in the workplace and present greater opportunity
or the perception of it. That is too difficult for too many to do.

These figures aren't the most recent, but I can't be bothered to hunt them
down. I rather doubt that the relations have changed much in the past seven
years.
In 2001, there were 101 shooting-related homicides in the UK (excluding
victims of terrorist activity in Northern Ireland), out of a population of
just under 60 million.
In the same time in the US, there were 10,131 shooting-related homicides in
the US, out of a population of just over 280 million.
In other words, your population is four and a half times as large as ours,
but you manage to kill 100 times as many people with firearms. Intentional
deaths only, mind you -- I didn't even bother to look up accidents and
suicides.
Make of these figures what you will.

Are those priests and reverends making that cry as they're sodomizing
1000s of young boys, or is it the young boys you hear crying in agony?

Typical cherry picking of statistics to prove a point. You purposely
use an example of nations with strict gun laws and low homicide rates
to prove your point. You ignore states with strict gun laws and
homicide rates much higher than the US. Russia and Brazil being two
such examples. Two can play that game. The population of Washington DC
and South Dakota is roughly the same. For the past 32 years,
Washington DC has had the strictest gun laws in the US and is
consistently at or near the top in homicide rates. On the other hand,
South Dakota with very few restrictions on firearms, has one of the
lowest homicide rates in the nation.
