Do you want to be in a revolutionary socialist band and live in/near Glasgow?
I am moving to Glasgow soon (probably within a week and a half to two
weeks, living in Wallace Street in the Gorbals and very near the city
centre) in order to get involved in the Scottish Socialist Party (SSP)
and form a revolutionary socialist band called Galaxia, named after the

very left-wing state of the galaxy at the end of the Foundation series
by Isaac Asimov.

It is important that we don't become rich and out-of-touch if the band
is successful. Therefore, all proceeds, except for workers' wages (as
taken by SSP members of the Scottish parliament) once the band becomes
a full-time job, will go to the Galaxia Foundation for the World
Socialist Revolution, which will democratically decide how to
distribute them. I would like it to primarily fund left-wing parties
and campaigns, plus charities (particularly those which campaign as
well as alleviate the problems of capitalism). We will also do benefit
gigs, and I would like us to do the first ones as benefits for the SSP.

I have written two songs, which you can hear (as recorded before the G8

summit in Gleneagles, Scotland, last year) or read the lyrics of on the

Galaxia website (www.galaxiamusic.org) - "Do They Know It's G8 Time?"
(to the tune of Band Aid's "Do They Know It's Christmas?") and "The
Revolution Starts Now!" I would expect band members (including myself)
to write additional songs, but we could perform versions of other
people's songs as well (perhaps some love songs as well as overtly
political ones).

There is a very important deadline of the G8 summit in St Petersburg,
from the 15th to the 17th of July this year, and I want us to do some
sort of (probably very limited) world tour before that summit in order
to promote the idea of a worldwide general strike at that time.
Obviously it won't take off everywhere, and perhaps it will not be
until next year's G8 summit that mass strike action will become a
possibility, but we should at least try.

I have already come across three people who are interested in joining
the band, after publicising it on the Scottish Socialist Youth News
forum (http://www.ssy.org.uk/Forum), but I would like to give as many
people as possible the opportunity to get involved by sending out this
message widely and submitting it as an article/letter for the SSP
newspaper, the Scottish Socialist Voice. Anybody who is interested can
contact me on 07739 904924 or email me at busterblock@fsmail.net and/or

revolutionarysocialiststeve@yahoo.co.uk.
