National waste and incineration meeting
Dear Friends,

We finally have a venue for our meeting and a date!!!

We will be having our long awaited meeting on Saturday 27th May at Room 421,
Birkbeck College, Malet St, London, WC1E 7HX
The nearest Tube is Russell Square or Goodge Street, and it is only a short
walk from Euston Station, Euston Square or Warren Street tube.

The meeting will start at 10:30am, and finish around 6pm, with plenty of
opportunity to break for refreshments. We will only be charging £5 entry,
but we would urge you to dig as deep as you can and give us more if you are
able. For your entry fee, we will give you lots of tea and coffee, but our
generosity cannot quite stretch to lunch or snacks. However, there are
plenty of local cafes around and also the Students Union. Or why not bring
your own lunch and use the time to get to know everyone.

We are planning to have our meeting in two parts, the first part being about
the local issues - the incinerator planned on your doorstep, learning what
we can from each other, and about the best arguments and methods to use to
fight the local issue. Try to find out at which stage of the planning
process your local incinerator currently is, and let us know this as soon as
you can. We will be discussing what steps to take at each stage of the
planning process. There may be a chance to stop it before it gets too far,
and we may be able to help you with some ideas.

After lunch, the second part will be about the White Paper, and what to do
to change the Government's incinerator strategy. If you haven't already done
so, please read the wonderful paper on The Health Effects of Waste
Incinerators written by our very own Dr Jerry Thompson, which can be found
at the British Society for Ecological Medicine website www.ecomed.org.uk in
the "Publication" tab on the left side of the home page, or directly on the
Ecomed site at www.ecomed.org.uk/pub_waste.php

There will be plenty of discussions to join in, and of course an ideal
opportunity to meet each other and forge useful relationships.

We will be putting together a presentation for the meeting, and if you would
like us to include pictures of your action group, protest, victory,
incinerator, etc, please send them to us now with a short description or a
potted history.

Please send us confirmation to let us know if you will be coming, and how
many of you there will be. And whether ot not you think you'll make it to
the meeting, please let us have the following info:

What local incinerator is your campaign fighting?
At what stage of the planning process is it now?
What have you done so far which has been successful?
What didn't work for you, and why?
What are you still planning to do?
Have you contacted any celebrities to help you with your campaign?
Do you have any useful contact with environmental specialists in your
group?
eg lawyers, doctors, scientists, politicians, media etc.
What ideas do you have for us collectively to fight the White Paper?
Do you have experience of lobbying or the Parliamentary process?
Do you have any media contacts, experience or expertise to access
the Local, London, and National media?

Some of you have kindly offered to assist us with organising and speaking at
the event, for which we are very grateful, and we will be getting in touch
with you soon. If any more of you would like to contribute in any way,
please let us know.

Remember - the more we put into the meeting the more we can get out of it.
Please let us know that you are coming as soon as possible, as places will
be allocated on a first come first served basis. We will be updating our
website soon with the latest info, so please visit us at www.sainslough.com
soon. If you would like any other info, please email us at
mail@sainslough.com Please feel free to pass on this invitation to your
friends and colleagues.

Thanks and best regards,
        Eve (DIRT)
      Yolanda and Greg (SAIN)

Please make your cheques out to: SAIN and post to: SAIN, c/o 2 Springfield
Cottages, Slough, SL1 1LU, ensuring you include your return address and
email in the note. We will acknowledge receipt by email.
