The price of illegal drugs depends on the price cap set by the cost of
competing legal drugs. Illegal drugs can never exceed that price. They
can't even begin to approach it.

If there is not much profit margin between the price differences then
it will not be worth the risk and bother for criminals to produce and
sell illegal drugs, while punters will think it worth while to pay a
bob or two more for the real deal.

Criminal opportunities will have been reduced and, as in the excellent
analogy you kindly pointed out earlier, the total resistance of the
circuit will be higher and crime will be lower.
