Actually, the forbidden fruit aspect may not be the reason for most drug
taking, but it is definitely a factor, especially in underage drug use.

No, but I'll ask you this;  How many adults (say 20+) take up smoking?  How 
many smokers are smokers cos they started while under-16 cos it was "cool"? 
Now that the age has been raised to 18 I dare say the matter will get even 
worse, not better.

Tobacco is one of the few drugs that use has declined. From about 61% just 
after WWII to about 23% to day. This was not by drastic probibition, 
throwing users in jail or telling lies but by propper education, telling the 
truth and some very clever but still truthfull advertising.

Prohibition does not work but Education does.
