Creative democracy
Please circulate this seasonal appeal further.

The basic idea of direct democracy, that a proposal supported by many
shall be put to the whole electorate for decision, is accepted by a
large majority.

The democratic tools available here include
VETO of unwanted government action and law,
the PROPOSAL (citizens' initiative) which can push creative ideas onto
the public agenda and
ultimately to REFERENDUM,
RECALL (dismissal) of elected members of parliament and officials.

Many areas of controversy, reform and blockade in public affairs, at
local and central governing levels, would benefit from having these
tools available.

Advocates of improved democracy face inertia of public institutions,
resistance by ruling groups, widespread lack of familiarity with these
methods of democracy. The answer is to step up our campaign and our
educational efforts.

In order to succeed we need active partners, members and donors.

Please visit our WWW presentation during the winter holiday season.

Regards
M Wallace-Macpherson
