My obfuscation was crossword jargon - NESW are points (on a compass).

that will account for why i didn't understand - i think crosswords need
to be shoved up the same ass as all the soduku puzzles

Sudoku puzzles completely flummox me . A good cryptic crossword (when my
brain isn't in meltdown mode) is a different matter entirely.

(I saw what you did.)

I like doing stupid things with numbers. Saturday's lottery was a
rollover and the system I created to generate my six numbers was based
on a 29x29 magic square. It got two right, so MadMazza had to pay for
her own Indian takeaway yet again :(

Mind you, what's the point of winning the lottery at the moment? Where
do you put your winnings - in a bank?

Euro lottery (non roll over)= 220 odd banks. Bit of a logistical nightmare .

i'm still waiting to hear how switzerland is doing,
and whether this is actually a Nazi ploy (if we look around they didn't
really lose the war....)

We certainly didn't win - we went to war to restore freedom to Poland
and failed.

Pfft. That's just communist Cold War anti-British propaganda - spouted
by Evil Nigel, who's also often shown off his racist Nazi tendencies
here too. He's a nasty piece of work, isn't he?

No, `we' did not go to war. _We_ were not alive. My parents were too
young to fight at the outbreak of war (my mother was just over one week
old), and I'm one of the older posters on this newsgroup.

No nation in modern times has ever been `free'.

Because Poland was taken over by Communism after the Second World War,
Poles were taught that what happend to Poland was all the fault of the
British. Some Poles blame Britain and the British for all the bad
things that happened to Poland during the Second World War and all the
decades of Communist rule.

Never mind that those problems were all entirely the fault of Germany
and the USSR, and never mind that one could have expected Poland to have
defended itself rather than relying on outside assistance.

Britain went to war because Poland was invaded and Britain had
guaranteed to defend Poland against such things.

The aim was to stop the bloody Germans. In that, the job was successful
- eventually. Poland also survived as a nation, which was a good result
too (Poland has spent a lot of time non-existent).

Since the USA refused to carry on fighting in Europe after the defeat of
Germany, Britain was unable to do what it wanted to do *next*, which was
to liberate the nations of Europe from the USSR.

So because of Stalin and Britain being let down by the bloody Yanks,
Eastern Europe was run by `Communists' for 45 years.

Poland is now free so it's wrong to say that restoring freedom to Poland
did not happen. If Britain hasn't fought and won against Germany in
1939-1945, Hitler would have got away with his plans, Poland (and Poles)
would not exist, and nor would the EU and the world would be hideous.

Some Poles know this and appreciate what Britain (not us) did for
Poland.

Rowland.
