More on Royal Mail
I ordered a power supply on line last Friday,
got a e-mail yesterday telling me good have been
dispatched.
First thing this morning knock at the door, it was
the postman with a parcel.
If this is a strike then I think we should have more of them.

I got an email to say that my package from RSPB had been despatched
yesterday evening. There was a link to a tracker page, which tells me the
postal code does not tie in with their database so they can't track the
item. I've checked both post code and tracker number, re-entered them both
and still the post code isn't recognised. It's the same post code I've been
using since post codes were introduced for this address, so who's got it
wrong? I wasn't aware that I'd moved since yesterday. :(

On a brighter note. I had a text from Orange at 07-15 this morning to say a
package I'd requested delivery on Wednesday 4th November had been
despatched. They gave me a tracking number to enter on the parceline site,
and that tells me that the package is currently being held at the depot in
Rushden.

I'm not certain as to why that would make a difference Wally. Anyhow in
the first place, when you click on the link they gave me in the e-mail, it
automatically comes up with both tracker number and post code already
entered. When it wouldn't find it and suggested re-typing the details in,
that's what I did, still with no good outcome.

I ordered a book from Amazon on Friday, and a CD carrying box from someone
else on Sunday. Both came today. Neither by Royal Mail.
Seems to me that more folks are finding *other* ways to get stuff
delivered 'just in case' and that after the strikes are over, there just
won't be as much for postal workers to do.
So they'll probably go on strike over redundancies. ;-)

Well that package has arrived within the last 5 minutes, but delivered by
the 'Home Delivery Servicee' and not Royal Mail. Interestingly enough the
tracker is now working and states that it was loaded on the delivery van at
06-18 this morning. So within the next few minutes it should be saying it's
been delivered and signed for.

That one was put on the delivery van at 08-14. They sent me a text just
before that asking if I still wanted delivery today, if not they offered the
choice of Thursday, Friday or Saturday. Seems quite a good service,
except it hasn't arrived yet.

Arrived at 13-55 - right in the middle of Neighbours. Anyhow got it all
fitted, up and running and testing atm. Connected to the Net through
Orange BB dongle. Supposedly at 3.6 Mbps. So I can now go travelling.
Despite it saying I'm connected at 3.6 Mbps I suspect that I'm downloading
at closer to 350 Kbps though. Hey Ho !!!

You could always try the dongle on an extension lead. It'll probably give
you sooper dooper download speeds in the most awkward position :-)

It's surplied with a short extension lead sothat if you knock it, you won't
damage the USB socket on your laptop.

Just received a parcel that I ordered from Tiscali over a week ago. It
arrived by Royal Mail. The ones from RSPB and Orange that arrived through
Home and Parceline respectively on Wednesday were both ordered a couple of
days after the Tiscali one. So it seems that the RM strike has affected
our deliveries somewhat.

Two recent experiences using couriers.
I shipped a fairly large box down to Dover about a month ago with
ParcelForce. Using their guaranteed 24 hour delivery it took the best
part of 3 days to arrive.
This week I shipped another much larger parcel up to Northumberland
using City Link. Again guaranteed next day delivery. Collected around
midday Wednesday, delivered around midday the following day.
Orange reckon my new iPhone will definately be delivered next Tuesday.
They have a deal. They say. I hope it's not with ParcelForce.

Have they got a tracker on it? My dongle had and it was delivered just
after lunch on the day I'd specified.

I've no idea. It's officially launched on Orange on Tuesday 10th and I
pre-ordered over the phone. The sales droid assured me I would have it
on the 10th. I said are you sure and was told absolutely, they have a
special deal with the couriers.
We shall see.
