Advanced Driving
I'm hoping to take my advanced driving test soon. One of the things they are
very keen on is that I should be driving very close to the speed limit when
it is safe to do so. Because I can't hear the engine noise very well, my
usual strategy is to drive about 5mph below the speed limit, and make
frequent visual checks of the speedo. In the good old days when I could hear
better, the changes in the engine noise would alert me to speed changes.

If I am to drive nearer the speed limit, I have to make more frequent checks
on the speedometer, and this takes my attention away from the road.

Anyone done the advanced driving test? How did you tackle this problem?
Anyone got any ideas?

Re: Advanced Driving
I would talk about this with an AIM observer who also has been an examiner - I did
and really they are not going to insist on your eyes being glued to the speedometer.
It's all about common sense. It also helps if one develops a sense of one's speed
with reference to other traffic and fixed points in the scenery.

For what it's worth I rely quite a bit on the rev counter as I cannot hear engine
noise at all, this way it helps me choose the best point to change up or down
(mechanical sympathy normally relies upon hearing the engine)
