Of course they don't. The pupose of this crossposting was to bring unity, not
for a flamewar.

In my newsreader, if I click "collapse all threads" it shows me how many posts
there are in each thread. The biggest I see is 300 for "Summer hols", but that's
not including any posts from Johnny (so quite a big error).

Mine only shows posts going as far back as June, so that's not much use.

Googlegroups is your friend, you can even see that some posters have been
here for more than 10 years.

http://groups.google.co.uk/group/uk.local.cumbria/browse_thread/thread/6ffb0122699d2be4/4b3b3b837cdafa75?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=uk.local.cumbria#4b3b3b837cdafa75

Of course back in those days (for those of you who haven't been on Usenet
since it started) it was DejaNews before Google bought it.

Yes, the early days of uklc are a fascinating way to waste a few hours.
Finding Edith's first posts is an interesting diversion. We're a loyal lot
here, though of us who have stuck it out.

The early days (for me anyway) of Usenet in the early/mid/lates Nineties was
great, most people used their real name instead of a socket puppet, real
email addresses. No spammers, very few nutters and a real community and then
sometime around 2000+ it all went to pot.

It was nice to be amongst the pioneers, and I enjoyed the cameraderie and
innocence of it all back then, but I wouldn't want to go back to those slow
download speeds, miniscule graphics, impossibility of streaming audio let
alone video, and the fact that most of your friends weren't online so you
still had to phone them ...

... on a landline.

Blimey 1999 - I was only 8, how the years have flown by.

Lou.

PS: I've only posted this so that I can be part of this big thread.

Morning Lou. My car is a 1999 model just like you. I've had to replace the exhaust and pipes and stuff underneath, had it sprayed
and had all the rust removed. How are all your parts and your underneath.? Are they in the same critical state?

Lou cross posted too.

And now you're one of the cross-posters.

I'm very disappointed in you.

There's been an immediate and directly observable increase in undesirable
posts - call it spam if you like - since the cross-posting thread started
with Warwickshire.

I'm sure that it's to do with the sudden increase in posts. They didn't used

I agree with you - sort of. Cross-posting doubles (at least) the apparent
traffic and audience these idiots think they are impressing. I'm not saying
it's uklw. It's entirely related to the cross-posting. It's not like we
haven't seen this before. Once these idot cross-posters start up, it takes
a while for it to settle down again.

If you like, just for fun, we could blame it all on Pellucid. He attracts
other nut cases pretty efficiently. Unlike Edith who is also a nut but
seems to appeal to rather more sane people.

I'm having a bad day, I've got a terrible cough and they've replaced
my PA with some dragon from Finance who keeps talking about Saturdays
episode of X-Factor, and how she thinks Louie Walsh is 'dishy'. This
is clearly a new use of the word 'dishy'.

I've taken a look at the Warwickshire newsgroup and it is very spartan
indeed, in fact only the trolls are actually interesting. A pity Mr
Ellis is not still around we could have had some fun....

Trollingly,

Lou

I wonder what happened to him. D'you think he's settled down, or something awfully dramatic like that, Lou?

We've just had our first cup of tea, and a suggestive biscuit, BUT we have
pruned the entire large border in the garden and taken a dozen sacks of
prunings to the refuse tip. Wake up Edith and smell the tea.

I received an email from him a couple of months ago Edith, he finds it
difficult to access the 'web' during working hours apparently so can't
post the high volume of inane rubbish that we had all become so
accustomed to. Shame. I did advise him to look at alternative work,
but he likes the callcentre environment.

Sad regards,

Lou

I miss him. I miss everyone who popped in and popped off, even that fellow with the horse shoes that blocked me.

Apart from Mr Kellett, it seems. I was wondering where he'd got to. But
amongst other things, the trõlls monitor the occurrence of the word "trõll"
and visit newsgroups that mention it, hence my misspelling of it. Actually
they probably monitor alternative spellings too, so it's a bit pointless
really.

They're not really a problem in a busy newsgroup like this. Just ignore them
and keep on with the inane chatter that we're so good at.

I suspect that he was wearing Mules - Edith has a problem recognising
Horses, you should see her painting! Make sure you're sitting down and
the phone is connected directly to the Samaritans.

Lou

Gees, you're a beast sometimes. I've delivered the 'horse' painting after turning the Roman horse into a mule for you. Owner quite
satisfied.
