Oh, it's probably true. A lot of refugees do indeed hold paper
qualifications at quite a high level, probably higher than the farmers
with whom they are surrounded. However there are various reasons why
they find it hard to obtain work.

1. They speak little or no English (or, of course, Welsh) and if they
do speak English, it is with a terrible accent, which has to be a
disadvantage if you are a doctor or a teacher.

2. Their cultural background makes it hard to employ them. For
example, many men from other cultures find it hard to work with women
and impossible to work *under* a woman, so a job with a woman boss is
just not on the cards. There have been cases in the local hospital
where eastern doctors have treated female nurses and colleagues like
dirt, though no one speaks about such things. The same applies to a
woman who wants to wear a bag on her head at work or a man who won't
wear a safety helmet over his turban.

3. There is prejudice. That is a pity, because at their best, many of
these refugees make excellent employees - intelligent, dedicated,
hard-working, loyal. And, of course, highly qualified.
