OT: Wireless networks
Don't know how many non-trolls actually read this newsgroup anymore...

BUT I'd appreciate it if somebody could give me some wireless network
pointers, or give me a link to an online guide.

I set up a wireless network from a PC usb device, which is working fine -
the Nintendo Wii & DS both find it and function no problem.

However, I have now been asked to get a laptop running on this same network,
when I next visit.

I have bought a wireless card for the laptop. The laptop is running XP. What
are the steps I need to take between plugging in the wireless card... and
getting Internet Explorer on this laptop to function using the wireless
network please?

Thanks!

Good morning Keith.
Assuming the USB dongle includes the functions of a normal router such as
a DHCP server and NAT..

Install your network card in the laptop. You should then be able to scan
for available networks. The card should be set to obtain an IP and DNS
addresses automatically.

Once your laptop 'sees' the wireless network just click connect. If it's
password protected you should at that point be asked for input.

Any snags, you know where I am..

Re: OT: Wireless networks
I am not an expert - and you may know this - I understand that many wifi
networks default to not secure - so you need to check that - otherwise
you'll be facilitating your neighbour's downloads!!
