God!
Blair thought he was the Messiah and now Brown thinks he is his Father!

Lunchtime he said " We have had some success at bringing oil prices down"!
Would anyone like to suggest just what he has done to bring oil prices down?
Ok, I will answer that myself. Brought on a damn great recession, that is
what he has done.

Notice how smug and cocky he looks these days? He is even cracking jokes
about banks failing. He is in his element, having caused, and now presiding
over the biggest financial shambles in our lifetime, he can appear decisive.
He can spend £5,000,000,000 of our money, and make the next generation a
hostage to his ineptitude, in an attempt to rectify the shambles he created.
That is more than the Americans have spent and our economy is a fraction the
size of theirs.

And just how decisive was he over that? It now appears that the banks went
to see him. They wanted him to recapitalise them to the tune of £50 billion
and have a load more dosh ready to bail them out.It is reported he dithered
for a few days not knowing what to do ( he has form and is at least
consistent) so to help him make up his mind one of the bankers leaked their
request to Robert Preston of the BBC. He had a scoop and announced it on the
news and so Brown had no choice but to go along. So much for decisiveness.
Always one step behind.

If he thinks he will appear a "man of action" and endear himself to the
British public for bankrupting them my hope is he will be out of luck. What
might have appeared a "blip" a year ago when he said the economy was
"fundamentally strong", will look in a year or twos time as big a lie as
Blair with his WMD lie. A week maybe a long time in politics but memories
are for ever.

Heaven help you, you mean. A devotee of Palin needs more than earthly help.

Well at least she has the experience of being the Mayor of a small city
budgets, employment, etc and also the governor of a very large state with an
80% approval rating..and a budget surplus.

Obama on the other hand offers 1 year in the senate experience and scaring
up illegal votes with Acorn..

You mean she did have until she was found to be ethically corrupt by the
independent "Troopergate" report.

Here is the operative part of that report:

"For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, 1 fmd that Governor
Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the
Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides
"The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public
trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through
official action is a violation of that trust." "

[snipped a bit]

What amazes me is how this is being reported - totally imbalanced. Is it
that no one understands?

Why are financial commentators not screaming at the tax legacy left for our
children. Now as the stock markets continue to tumble after Gordon's grand
gesture, why is this not picked up as "Gordon's measures have failed
dramatically and all that money pumped into the economy is fruitless". So
we now have a massive debt AND crashing markets.... AND the markets are in
freefall - where do I find that on the bbc website???

We get all holier than thou with iceland in our newspaper headlines but
we're not that far behind them, ffs! In fact you could say that we're
deeper in the shit but no one has had the stones to go on TV and announce
it.

Also, there's not one person putting their hand up for this, have you
noticed? All this is no one's fault! Economic prosperity .... and they're
falling over themselves to take credit, the tories put the wheels in motion,
Nu Labia - our economic prudence. NOW its all global forces and out of
their control. What a complete and utter total bunch of complete c*nts!

The entire establishment - the Govt and their lackeys and the infrastructure
around them, their mates at the banks and the media services that butt up to
them, that entire whole top tier of the establishment that does the deed
then presents it to the public are a total and utter waste of space.
Weighed, measured and found desperately wanting.

As for Gordon saying about Cameron that this is no time for amateurs, well
that's a hoot. Every time this Govt cocks something up all i ever hear is
"Lessons have been learned and we've put measures into place". So i'd say
we've already got the amateurs ... time for anyone with a bit of real life
experience and i don't see that anywhere in the Houses of Parliament.

That is quite some coincidence. Two individuals posting the same thing at

This finding was done by a democratic kangaroo group. Palin is governor of
Alaska and by virtue of that is able to fire any of her employees at any
time . The person she did fired tazered his own child and threatened another
relative with bodily harm. What is it with people like you....

Acorn, is an organization that registers low income people to vote, mainly
democratic that is . They have been dragging homeless people and giving them
money ,cigarettes and anything else basically to buy their votes. Again
recently fraudent regisration forms have been with the same signature on
hundreds of forms some have even got the Dallas cowboy football team
signature on them . There now is a massive federal investigation going on
in many states into their activities .Obama has always had a close
association with them in fact funneled hundreds of thousands to Acorn via an
Annenburg [the ex US ambassador to the UK] grant. There are similar
operations going on on the behalf of the Democrats in Ohio and other states.
Somewhat akin to rotton boroughs in the UK in the 19th century which were
outlawed a long time ago.

They're a primarily Dem group which is involved in "registering" voters
amongst other things.

The problem has been that a tremendous amount of fraudulent registrations
have been uncovered. This might be due to the fact that their canvassers
were paid per registration.

These folks will go from door to door registering people.

In my opinion the practice ought to be outlawed - if you truly want to vote
in an election, get off your lazy arse and request a voters registration
card from your local election office.

But then you know what they say about opinions

How about that England-Kazakhstan score?

So, what do we have here? A US Governor ( I say US because apparently many
in the US do not realise Alaska is a US State. Makes you wonder does it
not?) can fire anybody on a whim. That is what goes for democracy in the
good ole US of A?

What is it with people like me? We do not like idiots, religious fanatics,
creationists, bimbos with silly voices, morally corrupt politicians in small
town America who portray to the world not that which is good about America
but all that is bad. Out of 300+millions Americans, some the most clever and
innovative people in the world, McCain (who I personally admire) chose this
air head to be a heart beat away from the leader of the western world.
You are incapable of being objective. If Palin stood over a dead body 100
miles from anywhere with a smoking gun in her hand you would say it was a
Democrat plot. You have backed a loser and it shows!

Can you smell the stench of hypocrisy and unrighteous indignation? Has
everybody forgotten that Bush only became President because his brother in
Florida(or) fixed the hanging chads and disenfranchised thousands of poor
voters. I am not a socialist by far, but I cannot wait to see the end of
fanatical right wing bigots who have caused misery for millions of
Americans, brought economic Armageddon on the world, and killed thousands of
Iraqis and Allied servicemen. Has everybody forgotten Enron, Iraq and
Rumsfeld's culpability, and Cheney's relationship with Halliburton and its
contracts in Iraq? All totally corrupt.

And as there is something rotten going on in the State of America can we
please have a US President who does not want to export and impose that
rotten democracy on the rest of the world.

Carry on with this style of posting. You are making anti-Americans of all of
us!

But then you are not really American at all are you?

Pathetic! And wonderfully inept!

A bit of luck in the last 30 minutes. England teams are not meant to be
winners. No problem, as a country we win at what is important. Surviving,
just about! :-)

Seems to me there is a name for people like you ,bigot comes to mind..just
about everyone I am aquinted with know Alaska is a US state .perhaps those
you run with probably do not. As far as employees of the state of alaska,
she is the govenor the boss that is and can fire anybody she wishes they
serve at her pleasure .I do realize that in many parts of Europe that it is
very difficult to fire an employee regardless how bad he or she might be
with going through all kinds of trials and tribulations . My sister happens
to own her own company in Germany.. As far as your stupid insults go you
need to reseach your facts before you open your foul mouth, better still
keep it shut as as soon as you open it people will realize what an idiot you
are.

It would be fine if registration cards were issued by all states.

I don't know about Alaska but the last time I was in Tulsa I checked into
the Sheraton. I asked the receptionist what number I had to dial to phone
the UK( US hotel phones are, or were a few years ago, complicated to use,
each hotel having a different system and phone network). The receptionist
said "Huh?" with that look of accusatory blank bewilderment, perfected by
ignorant Americans and British chavs, that implies their ignorance is
somehow the fault of the questioner for asking a difficult question. The UK
I repeated. Is that local she replied? At that point I gave up!

There is also the clip doing the rounds of You Tube where a woman is asked
on a US quiz show what country in Europe is Budapest the capital of? She
gives the normal "Huh?" response, thinks awhile as $25000 is at stake, and
then says, I thought Europe was a country, I think France is!

Now we have thickos like that in the UK as well but the US and UK do seem to
have more than their fair share of thickos compared to other countries.
Maybe it's because both countries have crap education systems.

I will leave it to others to make a judgement as to the bigger idiot.

Here is a fact. Two posts from a teacher's blog in Alaska:

"You'd be surprised by the number of people that either don't realize Alaska
is even part of the US and not Canada, or people that actually think Alaska
is located down near Hawaii (where it usually is on most US maps). I know
it's
not many people, but there are some, and your right, those are the ones that
should've been held back a few years "

"I've had many such run ins with stupid people over the years, everything
from being called a Canadian to being told that I couldn't order a certain
product because I didn't live in the US. Then, there's always the other
stupid people that seem to think people up here actually live in Igloo's and
ride around on dog sleds."

So, you think that a State Governor should be able to fire "anybody she
wishes, they serve at her pleasure"? Tell me, what is the difference between
a State Governor and Stalin in that case?

You should do your own research but as this is a local UK newsgroup why not
take a random pole on here? Hands up those people who have NOT been fired
(other than civil servants) at some time in their working life? My hand is
very much down!

A world traveller like yourself surely should have known it is right in the
front of every phone book in the country, not only the UK but every country
in the world.I would imagine .The receptionist was probably a local earning
a few bucks who most likely had never made an international call ,to her she
probably thought you were referring to the othet UK. As many europeans think
Americans are stupid and they are super intellectuals, snobs we used to call
them ,funny how you mimic us in so many ways I bet you are even wearing
your baseball caps back to front these days .

Hmm, don't think travelling to Oklahoma makes me a world traveller does it?
You've missed my point, not for the first time. Even I know that the
international code number for the UK is 44 and for the US 1. I don't need a
phone book to tell me that. What I needed was the number to dial to get me
onto the international exchange. It used to be the case in US hotels that
sometimes you had to dial a 9, or a 1, or even a 7,to get an outside line
and then another number to get onto the international exchange. Is that
clearer now? Probably not.

>The receptionist was probably a local earning
> a few bucks who most likely had never made an international call ,to her

So the Sheraton, a reasonable group of hotels if you like that sort of
thing, employ receptionists in their hotels who have never made an
international call? And as for knowing which UK I meant there was a clue by
my passport which she had just looked at.

Lol! I don't even own a baseball cap. I don't wear caps period, not since I
left school!

By Europeans you may mean the French, who look down their noses at anyone,
especially yanks and brits, quite often with good cause.

It's difficult not to smirk ironically after that.

What's wrong with a Czech or a Russian?

You've got a thing about public sector workers, haven't you? In my time as a
principal officer in local government, I knew of many employees who were
dismissed for various infractions, from persistent failure to perform, up to
gross misconduct involving theft or fraud.

Conspicuous by its absence in that list is redundancy!

I have not got a thing about the police, army, navy, air force, fireman,
nurses, cleaners, midwives, carers, etc, in fact anybody within the public
service that actually "serves" the public for a pittance. What I do have a
thing about is bureaucrat spongers living the live of Riley on the backs of
the rest of us.

Er, I was made redundant myself, as were many of my colleagues over the
years.

I think that, like many people, you could do with working for six months or
so as a "bloated bureaucrat" and experiencing the life of Riley that many of
them actually enjoy.

I dont think that is surprising with an attitude like yours

Oops, sorry about the last one... got a bit overclicky.

Here's my suggestion. Let them crash. Let the stock market crash. Let the
banks fold. It re-distributes wealth and keeps private companies out of the
hands of governments that have no place running banks and businesses in a
free market. If they keep propping up the economy with taxpayers money so
it keeps growing it will just be a bigger crash in the end. There's a point
in exponential growth where the growth just can't be sustained. What goes
up must come down eventually.
