Umbrella Company
Can anyone here recommend a good umbrella company (for contracting in the IT
sector)? Preferably one you have used and have provided a fast efficient
service.

Thanks

Yes, Parasol - www.parasolgroup.co.uk. They are a PAYE umbrella company and
I've used them for a long time without any issues.

Thanks for the nod - I had narrowed down my options to either Parasol,
Atlantic or Orange Genie, but having a personal recommendation seems a
better way to decide. Thank you.

I always used to use Atlantic... so long as the agency concerned come back
with a clean credit rating, they do a scheme whereby you get paid a week in
arrears regardless of whether or not the agency has paid Atlantic.

Pretty friendly helpful staff as well.

Thanks Jack - its a murky world, IT contracting, just want to cut out the
sharks where I can - its bad enough dealing with the agencies offering the
jobs!

Aye, well let's put it this way...

I started a contract with an agency a couple of years ago, and put them and
Atlantic in touch to sort out the finer details of how I'd actually be
getting paid.

I got a phone call within a few hours from the boss at Atlantic explaining
he'd run credit checks on the agency concerned, and that he couldn't
therefore give me the usual weekly arrangement I'd requested.

Top service I reckon... you pay a bit more for the weekly arrangement, but
it suited me fine.

Others reckon you're better off going it alone... which is fine, if you have
a good accountant.

A load of hassle though IMHO, but yes, it would save you money.

Not any more. Apparantly the govt are cracking right down and if you're on
your own you could end up getting stung for a lifetime's worth of money.
With an umbrella company you get collective bargaining power with the Tax
nazis and a certain amount of insurance against your local tax office's goal
post moving exercises.
