You are both wrong. A newsgroup cannot be 'killed'.

But its better to be sitting there unused than for one person to
monopolise it for self-promotion, lies and boasting.

If Mike wants to engage in sensible, normal, TRUTHFUL discussion, and
listen to other peoples points of view then I expect he would be
welcome again.
Its entirely up to him, but I think pigs would fly over Lake before it
happens.
