Well! Here we are again folks.
It is now general knowledge that this newsgroup was set up
by the government to plug the gaps created by the abysmal
failure of their Psychiatric Care in the Community Policy.
The uk.local hierarchy was devised to provide an outlet for
individuals who would otherwise spending their days sitting
at home wearing an aluminium foil hat waiting for a full moon
to rise. It was hoped that this would reduce the incidence
of nutters out there howling at the moon and frightening the
shit out of their neighbours. Another of HMGs aims and
objectives was to provide a distraction to take their minds
of the problem of who they were going to knife to death next.
Unfortunately, this group has been taken over by the
articulate lower middle classes who have succeeding in
driving HMGs target audience away.Independant research has
shown that it was the amount and quality of the inane drivel,
called small talk which the middle classes are adept at, which
had the effect of doing their heads in. They left to
protect what was left of their sanity. Saddly this has happened
to the whole of uk.local. hierarchy.
This newsgroup is a very good example of another HMG failure.

Sure, I was just interested (vaguely) why anyone would want to do
this..
Nice gallery BTW Dave. I was impressed by the way the posters were
lined up. What software did you use to do this?
Loved the 'spiv' character too!

Thanks Brian. As you are obviously aware, it's almost impossible to get a
'square-on' shot of a poster, there's nearly always some perspective
distortion. After carrying out initial adjustments to images in Nikon
Capture, I then take them into Paintshop Pro (version 8 ... later versions
were rubbish), which has numerous editing tools, for any final adjustments
as well as downsizing for the web.
A couple of really useful tools are 'Straighten' which allows you to tilt
the image to compensate for e.g. an unlevel horizon (usually when I've had a
few beers), and 'Perspective Correction' which is what I use to correct
posters. This tool places a four sided box over the image with corners that
you can drag to a new position. So I just drag each corner of the box to
the appropriate corner of the poster, double-click, and bingo ... one
perfectly re-shaped and aligned poster.
I've a whole gallery dedicated to railway memorabilia, most of which is
station posters that have been corrected in this way ...

A few beers? There's laugh. Rumour has it that Dave's visit to Montreal
had to be cancelled in case he saw that giant 'Drink Canada Dry!' sign
and would try to.

Further to my previous response, I have been advised by my lawyers, Bells
Balvenie & Laphroaig, to inform you that your statement is a gross slur on
my good character. In fact, I have never been so slurred before .......
well apart from that time on a Menorcan beach when I drank four litres of
sangria and was overcome by heat and gravity ... thank goodness for the
ample-bosomed sun-bathing Juanita who broke my fall. Sometimes it can be a
blessing when things go tits up. Just a shame the Menorquin police didn't
see it that way!
