"Not only will this create valuable land, but it will give the port
greater flexibility to offer customers."

I'm a bit bemused by this. I'm not necessarily against the plans, but I
am puzzled how filling in - and thus removing access to - a dock can
offer more to the customers of the port. Unless, of course, we're
talking about people who wouldn't normally be considered customers of a
port.

And since the tunnel and Tyne Dock are 1.4 miles apart with the Nissan
terminal between, there will be some fancy pipework.--

That also crossed my mind. I didn't measure the distance though. :-)

Re: Heads ups
Hi John

Tyne Dock is too small for the Port of Tyne's current customer base
and therefore has become a white elephant and is costing money to
mainatin as a tidal basin. By infilling the dock the PTA will have
more room for storage with sufficient berthing space on the River Side
Quay (RSQ).

OK, I'll believe it _if_ the filled-in space becomes truly available for
storage, and isn't turned into executive houses and/or offices.
