Johnny Grey? Man that's an old database you have there Al.

Thanks everyone. It's actually the day after now. Sunshine, blue skies, and
20C expected later. Loads of colours on the trees. And it's a long weekend
here - Thanksgiving (Canadian).

My partner took me out for lunch yesterday - to her favourite restaurant.
My wife took me out for dinner last night - to her favourite restaurant.
The kids even gave me a gift card for the local big-box bookstore. And of
course, I wrote myself a huge cheque from mom. She's ever so generous. So
it was a good day.

And best of all, I received an email from an old friend who I had not heard
from for over year.

Partner AND wife. Sounds like monkey business to me, Jonatan.

Wind dancing through the Silver Birch trees, golden leaves flying
everywhere, steak in the oven, Orly outside knocking nails into planks,
taste of coffee and cream cake still dabbling in my mouth from the cafe at
Hvittingfoss. Celebrating your birthday. Life is good.

Nope. A little thinner in places but not even close to 'bald'.

If only I could get that thinning trend to move a bit south.

Here's a touch of the mountains for your birthday. My long lost friend,
"Angus." Just found him again.

I remember Angus. We all must have looked at that page before for some
reason. Looks like the weather improved slightly in The Lakes after all the
rain according to Lakelandcam. We're having a perfect weekend here. Not a
cloud in the skies and warm too. We're off to a friends for Thanksgiving
dinner tonight. My daughter went to this place last night. It's for kids
really but she and her friends still go there. They are ramping up for
Halloween. My son's been awol for 48 h. He went to a frat party Friday
night.

I've just been robbing the plants in the garden for next years seeds. I'll
plant them in early summer and get many free flowers. Orlando is still
building the hut and just said, "I'm beginning to see the light at the end
of the tunnel," bless. Then it's painting it before rain starts again :(

The sun is in the west now. Still a beautiful day here. The leaves are
starting to fall in the light breeze. The grass is getting covered. All
sorts of birds and squirrels active in the garden. A large deer strolled
past this morning as we sat having coffee. My daughter's gone off to buy a
new mobile phone. She left hers in her jeans and put them through the wash.
No big deal. Just buy a new one. In an hour we're off to our friends for
dinner. I better think about getting ready.

My daughter couldn't afford sororities. She's just trying to help
analyse the effect on New York City of the global economic meltdown.

(feeling guilty for having settled in Long Island and supported my
daughter's undergraduate studies of economics and praised her and helped
her get a job one street away from Wall Street.......)

I just met with mom's financial advisor. The vast majority of her wealth is
in investments with guaranteed death benefits. Doesn't matter what the
markets do. Woo-Hoo!

It really is these days. Everyone who had money have a lot less now. Some
pension funds are really in trouble. Imagine working all your life and then
finding you don't have the pension you thought you did!

There's more to this economic crisis than bad mortgages.

I'm sure I'm happy for you. But the costs of even those guaranteed
benefits have to be met by some form of payment, and if the funds aren't
making money, that means credit and that increasingly means 'by the
taxpayer'.

I find that I am OK with that in this instance.
