I keep thinking I *ought* to watch it, as our Leftpondian friends tell us
how good it is, but I've never had time. What's your opinion DB?

Every day. Since forever. The whole family watches. The PVR is permanently
programmed to record The Daily Show and the spin-off Colbert Report which
follows it. One would go mad living in these conservative ideological times
without the daily brilliant, funny deconstruction of the stupidity of our
right-wing idiot leaders.
These shows are the best TV emerging from America. If you can't get them on
TV, watch them online. They have both won many Emmy awards.
I go by Jon Canuck on Flickr. The 'Jon' is an homage to Jon Stewart.

I enjoy it immensely. It is an antidote to the political and economic
madness swirling around us. Highly recommended!

Whenever I can. It goes out new every night at 11pm, and I need to be on
my train by 6.29am, but I try to watch the repeat at 8pm. My daughter
was once in the studio audience - tickets are like hen's teeth and she
only got one because her friend's ex-boyfriend's father is a state
senator. Thanks for reminding me to record it, as I've only seen it a
couple of times since I switched Cable companies and got a new DVR box.
I'll go and do that now.
I also like Stephen Colbert, who Johnny mentioned, who first appeared on
the Daily Show and now follows on after a brief chat with Jon - but I'm
not sure that the Brits would understand his character, which is
ruthless satire on the flag-waving, jingoistic, oblivious-to-facts,
self-righteous pundits of right-wing America, since that type is pretty
much an American institution. Jon Stewart's show, however is much more
accessible to the British sense of humour.
If you like Emmy Award Loser John Oliver, the British correspondent, he
does a podcast for The Times (the London one) from New York, where he
chats to Andy Saltzman in London and they review the week's world news
from a transatlantic perspective. It's laugh-aloud funny sometimes,
especially when their American friend, "The American" who is as
authentically American as dinner-time Viagra ads and congestion on the
New Jersey Turnpike. I listen to "The Bugle" after the Archers, every
weekend on my MP3 player, while I'm doing my chores.
Or listen to issue 46 here:

We get it on Freeview, More 4. It has both myself and my wife in stitches.

My wife explains when things go over my Scottish head!

I like John Olivers stuff.
Mind you satire in the UK at the moment is so neutered and politically
compromised it's well worth avoiding. Nothing biting. Nothing insightful.

We tried to get tickets to go last March but couldn't in spite of our best
efforts over 6 months in advance. It would have been a real highlight of
our trip to NYC.
I will try harded to get The Bugle. I must ask the wife for her unused MP3
player...
