INTERVIEW WITH DR. DAVID NOER - Author of the Book “Healing The Wounds – Overcoming The Trauma of Layoffs”
INTERVIEW WITH DR. DAVID NOER - Author of the Book “Healing The
Wounds – Overcoming The Trauma of Layoffs”

Dr. David Noer is an author, consultant, speaker and executive coach.
His recent book, Healing the Wounds, addresses impact of the layoff
trend and offers leaders, professionals, consultants, layoff survivors
and layoff victims guidelines and frameworks for personal and
organizational revitalization following the layoff. His other books
include Multinational People Management, How to Beat the Employment
Game, Jobkeeping, and Breaking Free. He also writes a monthly column
for the Greensboro News and Record.

PeopleHRForum.Com recently conducted an exclusive interview with Dr.
David Noer to discuss his book on a subject which is very relevant to
present times.

Below please find the excerpts from one of the questions asked:

Your book “Healing the Wounds: Overcoming the Trauma of Layoffs and
Revitalizing Downsized Organizations” sounds relevant to present times
where you see more and more organizations resorting to layoffs to get
through the difficult circumstances. How does your book address this
phenomenon?

The recent economic recession has resulted in a wave of layoffs as
organizations across the world face great financial and competitive
pressures. The layoffs trend has had a profound impact on those laid
off, the survivors (those employees who have been retained), the
families of both the groups as well as the managers and leaders of the
organization. The trend has also challenged the paradigms relating to
employer-employee relationships. The book, drawing from my research,
addresses the effects of the layoff trend, the problems arising out of
it for employees and employers and its impact on behaviors and
experiences of all stakeholders. It tries to define these effects and
provides conceptual frameworks or models for better understanding the
effects. And then it talks about ways to address the problems and
effects of the layoff trend through logical, researched and systematic
models, which would enable all stakeholders to manage the impact and
repercussions resulting from the layoff trend. The book provides
perspectives and practical advice can be of benefit to laid off
employees, the survivors and management of the company where
downsizing has taken place, so that people move on with their lives
and careers with a progressive positive attitude rather than be
overwhelmed by the impact of recession and layoffs.
