USB to Wireless(?) to USB
I've just got myself a USB device (Weather station display) that I need to
leave permanently connected to my computer in order to update some web
pages every 15 minutes with the current and historical weather information.
The problem is that I need to relocate this display in to a more prominent
position (in the hallway) rather than on my desk (downstairs, but some
distance from the intended display location), so I need to find some way to
connect from the display to the computer (USB Client to USB master). I
really don't want to run a USB cable as they are too heavy to easily hide,
especially as I would need to use self powered USB extender cables as it's
more that the usable distance using USB when I consider the route it would
need to take.
My first thoughts are to use a wireless connection (a USB Master to
wireless device in the Weather display and a Wireless to USB client to plug
into the PC), but Google searching proven spectacularly unsuccessful.
Another option is USB to CAT5 into my house CAT5 network or a really cheap
laptop, sat in a hallway coat cupboard, running the data gathering
software, connected to my house WiFi to update the web page.
Any other suggestions??
TIA
Richard

Google "wireless USB hub"
Belkin make one.
However for the price of that, a secondhand laptop looks a better bet.
Get one of low power and also save your electricity bill!

Thanks.
I've actually got two old laptops (one so old it has WiFi on an external
dongle and can just about manage XP or Windows 2000 and the other currently
used as a test machine for Windows 7) , so one of these might be sat in the
coat cupboard some time real soon now.
