reduce energy consumption therefore longer battery life and that CPU
would take care of most of the video tasks I could or would ever throw at
it except games and 1080p HD which I never would anyway.

screen but I didnt like the review and it only has 6 cell battery, the
one Im going for is the Asus ul30a with 8 cell battery, its bigger 13"
screen but you need a slightly bigger machine to fit an 8 cell battery
too without it looking ugly.
Just ordered the Acer Timeline 1810tz from Amazon its a 11.6" LED with
dual core ulv 1.3ghz cpu, 3gb Ram, 250gb x4500mhd I will only get about 5
hours but it is smaller and lighter then the 13.3" ul30a and about 100
pounds cheaper... at 391.30 ex vat its not much more then a netbook.

What you're completely ignoring is the potential for a very small form
factor "desktop" box that doesn't care about battery life, something
discreet to plug into the TV for example. That's the area I'm looking
at and currently things like the eee box etc. aren't quite up to snuff,
but I'm guessing the market is pretty small anyway so I'm less than
enthused about rapid updates.

My HTPC is mATX and is quite powerfull, E5200 @ 3.33ghz 4GB RAM, 9800GT,
HVR 2200... it takes up quite a bit of room but no more then your
typical xbox360, ps3 or blu-ray player... so I do not need something
tiny, size is not important to me.
Aside from that I have an iMac in the bedroom and this new laptop is
replacing my tiny netbook which had great battery life (4.5hrs) but low
performance... the 1810tz should give similar battery life but much
better performance at the expense of a bit of size/weight and of course
money.
I know even £ 391 seems quite a lot of money for a laptop with a slower
CPU then most full size cheaper models, but thats the price you pay for
increased battery life at the moment, I suppose when it comes to sell it
on I will not get much more then £ 300 for it... thats if I sold it in
about a years time.
