Solar continuum filter
Tue, 21 Apr 2009 18:55:59 +0100
Hi all,
I was wondering is anyone is using one of these filters to view the Sun (in
tandem with a white light filter).
e.g. http://www.firstlightoptics.com/proddetail.php?prod=bsolconti
Are they any good?
I've seen the Baader SCF available from many dealers and hopefully someone
can give an honest ...

Sky@Night magazine CD

Hi Group, This is for UK readers I guess; the S@N CD contains release 5
of the free-ware stacking programme Registax. When you download this
there is a message telling you that it is a beta version valid for 30
days after which it stops working. OK, BUT it also says it was compiled
in February 2009 which I mak ...

Barlow lenses
Fri, 17 Apr 2009 15:24:26 +0100
I'd appreciate a bit of advise on Barlows. I've got a WO Megrez 90 APO,
which can accept either a 2" or 1.25" Barlow; what would be best ? I only
have one eyepiece - a WO zoom. I am hoping that the Barlow will allow me to
see Jupiter and Saturn a little better (i.e. increase the image size). Any
recommend ...

Fitting an SCT focuser onto a refractor?
Tue, 14 Apr 2009 13:15:49 -0700 (PDT)
Hi
Let's imagine you want to fit an SCT threaded focuser onto a
refractor...
The fine, female threaded Celestron/Meade SCT backplate aperture is
about ~77mm in diameter. So the matching SCT focuser has a male thread
diameter of ~78mm.
Does anyone in the UK/Europe sell a female threaded adapter ring which
...

Large first quarter lunar mosaic

This is the last of the set of 4 mosaics I did on the nights of the
30th & 31st March, 1st and 2nd of April 2009. It was also the most
time consuming being made up of 166 seperate frames, each distilled
from an 800-frame AVI file. The seeing was nice and steady on this
night and the final resolution is pretty good ...

Space stretches everywhere. There is no prefered scale for a galaxy or

The quasar has two redshifts: gravity and distance.
