The Tripods .... question

I remembered a series that I watched in the 80's called "The Tripods".
I looked for it on the net and found loads of episodes.
So, I downloaded them and have been watching them bit by bit.
I "finished" watching them last night (or atleast, finished watching all of
the episodes that I have).

I've been trying to figure out the name for this all morning but
eventually found it. Let's see if you can remember its name.
Spike knows the name now - so he can't answer this ;)
Came out at the end of the 70s and was aimed at hobbyists. You poured
plaster of paris into moulds and used the items you made ...

Help! Japanese tv show mystery!

A friend of mine is trying to remember the name of a dubbed Japanese or
Chinese tv show that he thinks was on BBC 2 in the 1980s. It wasn't 'Monkey'
or 'The Water Margin' but it was similar to these ie. martial arts, magic
etc. Any ideas?
