huge property price cuts in Lewis & other Scottish islands?

A large 4-bedroom house on Lewis has finally sold, after being on the
market with Anderson Macarthur in Stornoway for 2 years, advertised at
¡ê150K and then at ¡ê135K. These prices were considered "realistic", and
based on a professional "valuation" of ¡ê140K.
It has just sold for ¡ê99K.
Not privately but at auct ...

Bank statement show payment made in future!

Just noticed that my council tax payment has been taken from my bank
account (it appears on my statement and is taken by DD), the
transation is dated 15/9/2008 - but today is only the 13/9/2008 ( A
Sat). ie It has been taken fom my account "in advance" so to speak. Is
this usual - I never noticed it before? ...

XL Airline -- status of plastic payments?

It's widely known that in situations like the collapse of XL, payments
for goods and services are recoverable if made by credit card. On the
Today programme this morning though it was said that payments made by
Visa debit cards were also recoverable from the card issuer. Can this
be right?

Can anyone clarify something? I'm stuck in a financial trap, caring
for an elderly, sick parent, almost full-time. I get no spare time to
make a living. So I am living off my savings. (Not good!)
I felt I might be entitled to some state benefit, since, after all, I
am doing work which the NHS would be lumbered ...
