Scotland - E.Coli Scientists probe 'more vicious' bug
Mon, 01 Sep 2008 10:20:08 +0100
Pat's Note: What really troubles me is the extreme reluctance to ever
mention pigs. It might not be a more vicious form. It might just be
more sick pigs for longer acting as a reservoir of disease and
spreading it into the population either directly or via pork.
We know that Scotland's pigs are sick with mutated ...

Canada - FMD - History repeats itself
Mon, 01 Sep 2008 09:16:59 +0100
Pat's Note: When I first came into serious contact with Canada, I was
deeply surprised by just how "British" Canada remains.
It is not a diluted version of the US. It has s a distinctive culture
much closer, in my eyes, to Britain than the US.
It comes as no surprise that they are making exactly the same mista ...

One for Oz.
Sun, 31 Aug 2008 10:17:38 +0100
I am currently housing Wheat harvested by the neighbour who bought my
combine and grain trailers. He seems pleased with the yield although the
grain looks a bit thin to me.
The query concerns the hydraulics on the ancient John Deere tractors
delivering the grain. Both pulsate severely during tipping.
The o ...

Sweden gives up the fight against PMWS.
Sat, 30 Aug 2008 18:22:37 +0100
Pat's Note: These mechanical translators are getting better. I will
have to get one that translates my English into something readable
You can understand this.
The fascinating fact is that the Swedes had it as a notifiable
disease. Britain despite getting it much earlier than Sweden never
made it notifiable, ...

You lot will have to concentrate, I think you have really upset Defra
now. It is probably all this talk of weather and sloes and things.
You are supposed to be going over all silly about how marvelous
British vets are, in comparison to the filthy foreign ones who send us
contaminated corned beef tins stuffed wit ...

Liseteria - Animal Disease and DNA. (long)

Pat's Note: A piece of top class reporting from the Hamilton
Spectator.
Were we as lucky in Britain!
These guys don't rely on their Ministry releases.
The point about tracing should not be missed in Britain
DNA does not just catch criminals years after the event, it also
traces anyone that lies about t ...

Organic group disputes figures on antibiotic use
Sat, 30 Aug 2008 12:20:09 +0100
Pat's Note: The Soil Association are right.
More and more antibiotics are used on fewer pigs in Britain.
Defra obviously can't dispute it.
If they try to explain why, they are going to have to disclose that
they have been used to keep sick pigs alive long enough to get them
into the food chain.
If the ...
