Blu-ray players     Mon, 2 Nov 2009 10:54:01 -0000
Hi It may be that this isn't the best group for discussing the subject. If there is a better one (uk.media.home-cinema looks dead as does rec.video.dvd.players), let me know. Is there much difference in the picture quality or operation between the Sony BDPS360 and BDPS560? From my research, the older BDPS550 h ...

Tricky reception in Nottingham     Sun, 01 Nov 2009 19:35:18 +0000
After dabbling with the idea of a Humax Foxsat to look after my PVR needs when my Sky sub finishes, I've decided to stick with my Freeview PVR for the time being. Thanks to all on here who dissuaded me. Watching Freeview tonight I was reminded of one of the reasons I went the Sky route, that being the poor rece ...

Analogue time signal b0rked?     Sun, 1 Nov 2009 10:16:48 +0000
I'm in Granadaland, where DSO hasn't yet happened. In the bedroom, I have a VCR and a set-top box. Both seem to get the time from the analogue signal, and generally are in very close agreement (to within a few sec.) In the last couple of days, both have gone wonky. First the video showed completely the wr ...

Xfactor ruined AGAIN by bad sound mixing!     Sat, 31 Oct 2009 20:13:13 -0000
When will the BBC ever learn that people do NOT want random cheering and crowd noises at the same level as presenters and singers! Another Xfactor completely ruined because of the high levels of canned screaming. The people doing the sound mixing are complete idiots and it shows that the whole production of ...

Freesat branding on dishes, where?     Sat, 31 Oct 2009 14:34:02 +0000
One of the issues surrounding the low take up of sattelite services in certain areas of the UK, is that the display of a receiving dish on ya property proudly advertises that fact that the occupants have some sort of leaning towards murdoch provided 'entertainment' / mindwash. Around here, I still see plenty ...

3 sats from one "clear" dish inc pictures & Inverto multiconnect LNB system     Sat, 31 Oct 2009 14:17:05 -0000
For anyone that's interested, I installed one of those "clear see through" dishes the other day for a customer who wanted it to be as discreet as possible when looking up from street level (against the Sky). Using a Hirschmann was a big no-no so I had to try one of these. They wanted 13E and 19E for foreign c ...

Nice RF2 system     Sat, 31 Oct 2009 11:38:08 -0000
Apologies for poor photo quality (again) - this was yesterday evening and the photos looked ok when I previewed them! Job was around the corner from me. Complaints of no ITV / CH4 / CH5 plus many other Freeview channels & crap analogue pictures. Tested one of the outlets and was a seething mass of noise with ...

Vestel T810 - 8k/negative offsets     Sat, 31 Oct 2009 12:03:28 +0800
???I read the captioned piece of information in Granada Region Aerial Installer Newsletter, August 09. Can someone explain it in greater detail, i.e. what this is and the symptom is. Thanks, Scott ...

I'm sick of freeview not coping with interference     Fri, 30 Oct 2009 09:20:08 +0000 (UTC)
For the last few days we've had some bad electrical interference near where I live. We haven't tracked it down yet but the upshot is its pretty much killing some of the freeview channels making them either like a slideshow or no picture at all. So we switch to analogue and it works fine. Sure theres a lot of noise ...

Intermittant RF spikes all the way across VHF & UHF band     Fri, 30 Oct 2009 00:21:29 -0000
Did the nursing home job today, and got the headend all sorted out, perfect signals coming in & out, fine tuned with filters so signals are spot on across all TV points etc BUT there are random RF spikes occuring all the way across the UHF band (and below) which are trashing some of the DVB-T signals quite bad ...
